In regard to internal immigration to Texas (the south), compared to the frigid New England (the north), it has to be remembered, those two choices were hardly the only ones. In fact, migration into the whole of the American west was well underway by that time - and most of these territories were free, forbidding slavery. So it's hardly likely the south could have taken overtaken the whole country with numbers, especially once these territories became free states.
As for slavery being used as a pretext by the American government to invade the south is not true. In fact, in the north's stated war aims, never once was slavery mentioned - only a desire to reunify the country.
And for your charge that the slaves were not really slaves, but were wage workers who were only fed during harvest - - WTF! Workers can leave their place of employment anytime, and look for somewhere else, not only to work, but also to live. Workers are not whipped with impunity. Workers are not executed if they learn how to read. Workers are not subject to having their families broken up by so called "employers." Workers can not be bought and sold at a whim. Workers are fully legal human beings and citizens. I'm more than certain I could go on and on, but I think I've made my point. A worker is a worker, while a slave is a slave, and blacks in the south were most certainly SLAVES.

Banana workers were less than slaves, only paid during harvest. The best lands were "Sold" to the banana companies, by someone put in power with company supplied guns, then backed by US Marines.

Just evidence that economic warfare is alive and well, and recent crimes do shed light on past crimes. Banana workers that went on strike, or worse asked for better working conditions, were shot, and their families.

Like Iraqi Freedom, killed a million Iraqis.

Revisionist History now has it that The Civil War was not about slavery, or economics, or political power, it was about preserving the Rainbow for Puppies.

One man's Asset Liberation is another man's theft.

Both before and after were periods of murder and looting, American troops bringing freedom with a gun, and new ownership of assets.

The American Empire spread without limit from 1840 to 1945, and picked up a lot of other people's property.

Freedom has it's price, we now keep more Black men in cages than there were ever slaves. Freed, but not brought into the world of economic freedom, and following the path of their liberators, are now doing twenty years for armed robbery.

After 1945 it was no longer working, Korea, Viet Nam, up to Iraq and Afganistan, and the economic reality has shifted. It shows in having to reduce government spending, because of lack of employment, declining asset values for most, and the international spread of technology.

Prisons cost more than schools, and we have entered a decline like all empires before us. They all tried everything we are doing, it never worked.

It was best summed up many years ago.

To be sure, the treatment of banana workers was reprehensible, but it doesn't make the treatment of blacks in Antebellum times any better, and it certainly doesn't make them any less slaves.

There were indentured white slaves also. It's true they had the good fortune to be freed after a certain period. And poor white immigrants suffered along with the slaves. You would not send slaves into malaria ridden swamps to drain them, but you would send the Irish. If an Irish working man died it was no loss to the planter. They were completely expendable.
But many Irish still fought for the Confederacy.(and the Union.)
It all about the rich oppressing the poor, still happening everywhere.
Nothing new under the sun.

Absolutely true. My Dad's side of the family has had a long association with the labor movement, so I completely understand how poor people have been abused and misused by the rich.

You know, some of you all seem to think that back during the Civil War era the North was only inhabited by ACLU lawyer types. No one in the North was racist and in fact everything up North was open to both blacks and whites and there was no discrimination at all! Back then, before the Civil War, the North was as unprejudiced then as it is now and the bad ole South was all about slaves and hating on the black folks and all that. Get a clue.

Absolutely I know that's true. That's why Lincoln had taken so long to emancipate the slaves - because there was so much racism in the north that he lacked the necessary support.
There was a saying that went:
In the south, blacks could get as close as they wanted, as long as they didn't get too high. In the north, blacks could get as high as they wanted, as long as they didn't get too close.
I think something of that is sadly still alive in this country.

Yes we did bury some Irish, dead you know. It was well known that recent immigrants had no resistance to local disease, so fresh off the boat they were given jobs digging the New Basin Canal, and Yellow Fever made sure we always had job openings out of town. By the time they learned what was going on, they had yellow eyes. As soon as the canal was finished, it was filled in, and the process continued.

The Irish had some bad habits, their neighbors were found murdered.

As the Devils Island of America, the unwanted were shipped to New Orleans, a place that had been French for hundreds of years, until slave master Tom Jefferson bought us from Napoleon the Anti Christ.

To the north was Spanish, as Florida ran over to the Mississippi.

Under both France and Spain no one was a slave on Sunday, they could work for themselves, and buy another day for 1/6 of their value. Many had bought their freedom, and many bought five days, and maintained the connection to their old owner. There were a lot of Free People of Color, after hundreds of years.

Under English Law, once a slave, a full time slave forever, which lead to Free People being murdered, by the Irish, and their children being sold to the Americans.

Our world was the boot of Louisiana, and over to Florida, and all lands west of the Mississippi. Until 1803. To the north were the lands of the Choctaw. They also owned slaves. Such it had been for three hundred years.

The first Americans showed up in 1812, Andy Jackson, and about thirty men, and watched as we slaughtered the English at the Battle of New Orleans. C.C. Claiborne had been appointed to Govern us, and did not even speak the language.

The Louisiana Purchase said that we would keep our Laws, culture, and that was ignored before the ink was dry.

Land owners were murdered and their whole family, court houses burned, and hand written deeds claimed to be forged, and the lands passed to Americans from American Judges, in American courts, who refused all evidence written in French or Spanish. They could not even read English.

You can call them southern, we called them Kentucks, Americans, or English. Anglos, shanty Irish, mostly we called them illiterate murders.

When the war between the Anglos started, we tried to become an International Free Port. First we were invaded by the south, and would not support them when the north showed up. The south tried to occupy our homes, docks, but the north was better, and set up defensive lines outside the city to the west, from the river to the lake.

It was not till after the war when Beast Butler was put in charge of New Orleans we had problems. He would demand to be invited to dinner, then steal the silver.

So we did kill a lot of them, till they learned some manners, left the ladies alone. Most of the surviving portraits of Butler are found in the bottom of chamber pots.

After twenty-five years a one armed Confederate General lead a group that rounded them up, marched them to the river, and put them on a ship, telling them if they ever came back, there would be no ship next time.

Faced with a one armed senior citizen with a sword, Washingtom folded and ended Reconstruction, figuring they had stolen everything they could.

They did not come back till 1913, with a Navel Fleet. As no one would have anything to do with them they built an English town up river, Uptown.

Since they were not allowed in, they passed laws against prostitution, gambling, and blocked the import of good drink. Having closed the oldest race track in the country, they made it a cemetary. They were still not allowed to join the oldest Yacht Club in the country, or become members of Carnival Crews, Dining Clubs, until the Civil Rights Laws demanded they be open to People of low moral standing, and other Anglos.

We did form another race track, and since 1950, Anglos have been moving out, going back to America. The problem is they left the worst behind.

The US Attorney just resigned, when it was found his office was fixing cases so Anglos would not be convicted, nothing new there.

While the guilty have moved on, on the most unbelievable evidence, our Governor, his son, three Insurance Commisioners, The Congressman, The Mayor, have been convicted and sent to Anglo Prison.

We are as oil rich as the Saudis, and the poorest State in the occupied south. Huey Long was shot down for objecting.

The result of our occupation by the Anglos has been turning the richest most cultured part of America into the poorest.

In history, countries that have a Civil War, usually have several, because they are at war with themselves. Having reduced 99% to poverty, the stage is set for a popular leader to shoot for more than being elected to a figurehead office.

New Orleans, burning the Black Candle since 1517. You are in our prayers.

Inventor,check the census.Mississippi the poorest,Arkansas next.
Many Irish(Scots-Irish)were in the States before the Civil war, fought bravely against the English who had oppressed them for generations.
Shanty Irish,bog Irish??Sounds pretty ,ummmm,racist.Illiterate murderers?How do you know they couldn't read??
So glad to hear you buried them dead and not alive.
And I have no use for Andrew Jackson, the Trail Of Tears goes thru Arkansas, many people escaped off the trail. They were mostly mixed blood and settled in the Ozarks. They are know as the Lost Cherokee. They took white names and intermarried with the settlers that were here. Many people are also of Huguenot descent here in the Ozark's.
Scots-Irish,English,German,French,and Native,that's our predominate mix .
Most new people succumb to the ticks and chiggers, and the mosquitoes in the southern part. Many of the locals are immune to chiggers,I have never once got them.

I, too, am grateful for the Irish that they were allowed to be dead prior to burial.

While the census says Louisiana is not the poorest, that includes oil income which is not local. The people are poor.

After the destruction of The Choctaw Nation, opening the land for Anglos, it was turned into a plantation, planted in cotton, and there was a slave demand. A few owned all the land, and the poor had nothing, so they raided into Louisiana, killing free people of color and taking their children back to Mississippi for sale.

Problem being, in their eyes we were not white. French, Spanish, Creole, our color line was a brown paper bag, that shade or lighter, you were creole, darker, you were black, but many blacks were free.

In the Anglo view, white was pure white, and any other color was slave material. 1/64 black was black, by law, and subject to being sold. French and Spanish children were close enough. Rural family dead, children missing, we know what happened.

As the border got pushed back, Anglos became the new residents, often claiming the same name, saying they were a brother just arrived, and this was now their land. Murder the family, sell the children into slavery, as house slaves on the new plantations, then steal the family name, and move into the house.

Spanish Louisiana was where mixed race people settled, The Florida Parishes, for hundreds of years, and when the Anglos came they just killed them, sold their children, and took their names and land.

It was Genocide.

We were a long settled and mostly literate population, the people who did the killing were not. During the Civil War, only a quarter of the adult males could read. It shows in the records, up to 1840, people signed in a flowing script, after 1845 the Clerk of Court printed their name, and they made their mark.

It started as slave raids, then became masses that cleared whole areas of the long term inhabitants. Their leader became Sheriff, their backers Judge, Clerk of Court, and one of the first laws passed made it illegal to teach people of color to read. That was retroactive, and being literate and non white became a crime. They issued deeds, then the courthouse and all records burned.

Anglos are murders, thieves, kidnappers, and they will lie.

The Chocktaw said they were a cursed people, who could never feed their hunger, would eat up everything, then eat their children.

The Chocktaw are making a comeback, tenth largest employer in Mississippi. They say they like white people because they are dumb and work cheap. They are donating to schools to at least teach them to read, and sending their own children to grad school.

I know it will be hard, but white people have to understand they are dumb, there is no one left to murder, nothing to steal, and they have to quit listening to preachers and politicians that have sold their children into debt slavery,16 Trillion and rising, while net worth per person declines.

Native Americans ran things for a long time based on leaving things better for the next generation. White people have allowed 1/10 of 1% to own everything, which reduced the rest to debt slaves, and their children are not educated. Like I said, Dumb.

Whites have to learn they are a tribe, they live on land, and they cannot be at war with themselves, all others, life in general, without passing the curse onto their children, who will eat their grandchildren. The only result will be the suffering of the unborn. So far, there is no evidence they have learned anything.

It is not Racism, it is Dumbism, and I do not feel hate, just Pity, for those who bring such suffering to life.

Life is a magical gift in a wonderful universe, which should fill our selves with a joy to be alive, share life with all others, and leave a better world for those who follow.

Behold! You White people are making a mess!

Why are white people dumb? Because no one ever told them not to be?

It will end soon, the money you lived for will become worthless, there will be nothing to eat, nothing to feed your children, and you will eat them.

^^^^Look up Arkansas Cherokee Nation.Sequoyah lived near here,at Deer Arkansas.
Many, many native Arkies have Native blood. And we are proud of it.
And Arkansas has oil,we are still poor.Even with a Crater of Diamonds.
I do agree that the Natives got a bad deal when wh***y showed up on the scene.
But I don't listen to preachers or really care what politicians say, they do tend to lie.
The first school in the area my great-great grand pa settled in was held in his house.
He was not illiterate.

Time for my famous southern fried opinion. I personally do not view it as racist as I know during the Civil War their where people who where against the cruel and unjust treatment of slaves on both sides during the war, as well as for it to some degree on both sides. The real reason of the war was not just about slavery itself, but rather economical reasons that backed it. While I myself am pro-abolition, I do believe that the war did have some reasons worth fighting for on the Confederate side.

Now for the modern era I have mixed feelings about said banner. I often see allot of unsavory "country folk" have said flag on themselves, their vehicles, and their buildings. Yet I do not affiliate myself with most of said sub-culture. I do however honor the people who fought to defend the south and it's way of life back then, (not the slavery part, but the way of life dealing with the south's territories.) For instance general Lee would have been on the Union's side if his home state of Virginia did not seceed from the Union.

Not just the slavery part? Slavery was woven into the warp and woof of Southern Life. There was no separating slavery from the rest of what made the South the South. If it was just the principle that no Federation has a right to compel membership, I would agree with you, but that was not the point. Recall what the phrase "our Peculiar Institution" meant.
