The anti-abortion movement drops the ball on miscarriage
Our civilization is beset with a virtually unacknowledged plague. The plague of spontaneous abortion, more commonly referred to as miscarriage. Aside from the rather....ummm....curious.....state officials in Utah, the "pro-life" movement seems strangely quiet about this issue and there's no doubt that hundreds of millions of their precious unborn die every year as a result of miscarriage.
Now let's consider the fundamental ethos of the so-called "pro-life" movement (and from here on....i'll be referring to it as the "anti-abortion movement" since those calling themselves "pro-life", rarely, if ever, seem very concerned about human life outside of the womb) for a moment shall we???
Basically...anti-abortionists believe the unborn human has value and therefore that EVERY (or at least most pregnancies) pregnancy that can possibly be brought to term MUST be brought to term. No cost is too high and a screaming infant must be the end result of EVERY conception no matter the price. Ok....fair enough...but if this is what they TRULY believe, shouldn't we be seeing a "war on miscarriage" from them which is AT LEAST as serious as say....the "war" on breast cancer or muscular dystrophy??? Now at present, there is no known way to prevent miscarriages aside from those which are caused by drug/alcohol abuse, smoking, exposure to environmental toxins, etc....Most miscarriages are due to chromosomal abnormalities that thwart the further development of the fetus and we presently have no methods to prevent these sort of miscarriages.
Nevertheless and notwithstanding....this does not necessarily mean modern medical science cannot eventually come up with preventative measures in this regard. That said.....and considering what anti-abortionists believe (claim to believe, more accurately) is at stake, one would THINK they would be among the first to support research that may lead to the development of such methods. You would THINK they would be calling upon federal funding for research into miscarriage prevention methods. You would THINK they would hold telethons to raise money for such research. You know....the same sort of telethons that creepy Jerry Lewis fellow used to host for the MDA and perhaps instead of Jerry Lewis....maybe Sarah Palin would be an apropos host/ess for such televised fundraisers.
Furthermore....you would think they'd be just as strident with prospective mothers as they are with those who support legal medical abortions. In other words....you would think the anti-abortion crowd would feel a MORAL OBLIGATION to constantly excoriate women about the risks of smoking or using drugs/alcohol post-conception. Yet they are curiously silent in the face of ALL OF THIS and I say they don't care about the unborn nearly as much as claim to.
I mean remember what's at stake here folks. The lives of HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF UNBORN HUMANS!! ! In contrast....only about 44 million medical abortions occur every year. Are fetuses which are spontaneously aborted *somehow* less valuable and precious in the hearts and minds of anti-abortionists as those which are medically aborted??? Didn't the good lord toss a soul in them at that sublime moment of conception as well??? Or are they less worthy of god's legendary lovingkindness???
Now why is it that the medical abortion-hating Jesus just happens to be the greatest abortionist there is??? If a soul is implanted at the moment of conception...(or whenever....religious folks can't seem to agree on the exact stage of development in which a soul gets placed in the fetus by an almighty fart of god or something)....then WHY would god suddenly cause OR allow a spontaneous abortion to occur??? Did the OMNISCIENT AND OMNIPOTENT GOD change his mind or making a f*****g boo-boo here??? I think not. Now it can be argued that god was attempting to teach the formerly pregnant woman (or whoever) one of his charming "tough love" lessons by allowing/causing a spontaneous abortion. That would be sort of a funny conclusion to arrive at though considering many spontaneous abortions occur WITHOUT the previously preggo woman's knowledge (or anyone else's for that matter) that she was preggers. So i'd say that unless the anti-abortion crowd wants apply (and no doubt some among them will attempt to and I REALLY hating giving them any ideas....lol
a grasping-at-straws desperation argument in order to dig themselves out of this scary logical hole, then they're simply all wet. Such an argument might go more or less like this:
"God teaches the aforementioned "tough love" lessons on a subconscious, spiritual, or intuitive level and this is why it makes perfect moral sense for god to allow/cause spontaneous abortions".
Brilliant....desperate as f**k and probably total BS....but brilliant in its own right. The religious/anti-abortion crowd always seems to weasel its way out of every logical conundrum which threatens to irreparably crush everything they believe in. If all else fails....they'll always apply that age-old "god-works-in-mysterious-ways" escape hatch or simply say something staggeringly moronic like..."well....you can't PROVE god doesn't exist".
Oh well.....if theists and anti-abortionists want to use such arguments and further embarrass themselves....more power to them.
I say that the entire anti-abortion mentality is a disingenuous load of bollocks that even the vast majority of anti-abortionists themselves don't take very seriously. It's emotionally-loaded, fear-mongering, misogynistic BS motivated by petty malice, hypocritical self-righteousness and the fear of feminine empowerment....especially when it comes to SEXUAL empowerment.

So......this thread doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
Well...I don't about that...but assuming that there is, can you tell me what anti-abortion groups or individuals
are supporting it in any way, shape, or form??? Based upon the value THEY CLAIM
the unborn have, don't you think they OUGHT to be supporting such research???
Or are the possibly preventable deaths of hundreds of millions of unborn bay-beez every year a matter
of complete indifference to them???

You're kind of comparing apples and oranges. Your argument is akin to saying that everyone who opposes the death penalty should donate money for cancer research, as both lethal injection and cancer cause death.
Abortion and miscarriage are not the same thing, even though the result is the same.
I would think almost anyone would support preventing miscarriages, regardless of whether they are pro-life or pro-choice. Surely you're not saying that pro-choicers should [i]support[quote] miscarriage?

No i'm not saying pro-choicers should support miscarriage. I would say pro-choicers probably OUGHT TO BELIEVE believe the loss of fetuses via miscarriage is not a huge priority in terms of where funding and other resources should be applied. OTOH....if anti-abortionists value the unborn as much as they claim to, then they OUGHT to view miscarriage prevention education and research as a top priority. They ought to put their money where their mouths here. After all....from their perspective....medical abortion IS "murder" and many of them even presumptuously refer to it as a "genocide", or a "holocaust". Ok....so what does that make spontaneous abortions/miscarriages then??? By applying the logic of the average anti-abortionist....miscarriage OUGHT to be viewed as a horrible plague. Indeed....anti-abortionists OUGHT to view it as a one of the worst plagues in human history. Keep in mind that the smallpox virus *only* claimed an estimated 300-500 million lives in the 20th century. The "Black Death" was *only* responsible for around 100 million deaths in 14th century Europe.
The plague of spontaneous abortion however claims hundreds of millions of lives PER YEAR. If the unborn are so damn valuable and precious in eyes of anti-abortionists, shouldn't miscarriage warrant SOME serious concern from the anti-abortion/pro-life movement???
I sure don't know of any such concern among the lifer crowd and if some exists, I certainly wouldn't call it "serious".

The true hypocrisy is that the US has one of the highest rates of infant mortality in the western world - behind even Cuba - but one never hears the pro-lifers making a peep about it, much less advocating for free children's healthcare or better education. As far as they're concerned, life begins at conception and ends at birth.
Exactly. If unborn humans are truly valued then they would have jobs waiting for them at age 18. Pro-life conservatives could never answer for this as it is a self-contradicting belief.
Then again, you can't have an answer for ideas which are incomplete in the first place...
The whole "pro-life" thing is simply an emotion-evoking tool to get people baited into voting for officials that do nothing to stop oppression and greed.

I don't think anyone is pro-miscarriage, do you? Everyone is anti-miscarriage.
Where's the hypocrisy?
I'm afraid you've missed the point entirely

A miscarriage is a devastating thing to happen to most women. There are medicines and procedures now that can enable high risk pregnancy to make it to turn and they do continue to research it, but...
Miscarriage is a natural thing. The body has said "there is a fatal flaw in the DNA of this fetus that cannot be corrected."
A suction hose up the vagina or a chemical designed to induce miscarriage are not natural things.
There is a huge difference between the two.

This is a very depressing comment. Adoption is a great option and one that is not used nearly enough today.
It's because I'm a very depressing guy to be around.
The problem with adoptive parents is they're so full of themselves, so focused on their wants and insecurities, that they can prove themselves to be just as bad as the bio parents they call scumbags.
