Anyone else find the lack of suspicion disturbing?

Let me explain: The psychology of the pedophile/pederast is mainly one of an attraction to power and exertion of power over others. They seek out those that they perceive as weak and enjoy the sense of control and power. This same craving for control and power attracts these same pedos to religion and politics, striving to be heads of either. The larger the attraction to power (be it in the form of money, influence, or direct control) the more likely it is that they will also have another kind of attraction mentioned earlier. Why do we not investigate these people much, much more often? Why do we not keep much closer tabs on them? It's not like as if it should be a surprise....I guess maybe to the ignorant; but to anyone informed, it should be more of a surprise that there's so LITTLE convictions rather than so many.

So...why is this not something people talk about? They talk about politicians lying and being corrupted but they never actually get into what entails that addiction to power that goes beyond their control and into "addiction" territory.

Just curious, since it's the crux of the topic.

Papal infallibility is relatively new. It has only been around for at most 200 years, and was a way to fight Communism and consolidate power. So as time went on, only the conservatives would stay around because the hierarchy was not very friendly towards liberals to keep that power and change from that. It was a pretty good environment for a predator to be in. Then in order to try to keep that power they covered up years of sexual abuse and rape. They knew completely what was going on. The cardinal from Boston where the epicenter started actually got PROMOTED to a Vatican position, more than likely to avoid embarrassment and questioning in the United States. It was one of those things that led me from being a strict Catholic to a militant Atheist. You cannot believe all the other stuff religion has done to hurt the public.

It's a pretty basic premise of the disorder. I know this link isn't the best but I'd rather not be rooting around the net searching for "____ pedophilia" trying to find the right key words for it again. It's psych 101 stuff.

I wonder if the guys at Goldman Sachs who orchestrated the frauds also make regular trips to Thailand or Dominican Republic for the illicit sex trade?

Another interesting premise: would psychologists hide this aspect from full disclosure for the sake of protection? Logically speaking, this could easily be something that calls for a much closer, more discriminatory look at the most wealthy and powerful and the people who could most easily squash not only the study's findings but very likely those who performed the studies themselves. Would a person performing such a study omit information like this to avoid risk?

I realize that some of my drawn conclusions are an extrapolation on existing information but the relative functionality described by all aspects involved fit well in an analysis.

As you say. You are illogical and you jump to unwarranted conclusion.

You make an interesting point. Look at the lists of names released from the little black books of those high profile call girls. If politicians and such are willing to pay for sex in their own backyard, just think what they might pay for overseas.

I think the crux of the issue is that we live in a country that is controlled by politics, just as clergy control the local level of worship. In a sense, these people control our lives whether we want them to or not. We can try to guess the lesser of the evils and hope that during elections all a person's skeletons were exposed, but beyond that I think people want to believe they made the right choice. I think people just don't want to consider that these people might have an ulterior motive. We want to believe that these people are motivated by a desire to make the world a better place.

"Ignorance is bliss" is not just a snappy catch phrase.

My analysis is not and the conclusion is not unwarranted. It's unverified, but the observation for my hypothesis is sound.

If your hypothesis is unverified, how do you know it is sound?

to my understanding skafather just said the observations were sound, not the hypothesis itself.

Yes.

hy·poth·e·sis
   [hahy-poth-uh-sis, hi-] Show IPA
–noun, plural -ses  [-seez] Show IPA.
1.
a proposition, or set of propositions, set forth as an explanation for the occurrence of some specified group of phenomena, either asserted merely as a provisional conjecture to guide investigation (working hypothesis) or accepted as highly probable in the light of established facts

What I'm proposing would be more along the lines of a working hypothesis. The observations are there but more research and figures are needed to be able to make it a more solid hypothesis.

There is no correlation with being a cleric / politician and being a pedophile. It is more likely a pedophile would get ton and ton of coverage if he was a cleric or politician.

What probably fuels things down is that with politicians and clerics there are chances you will have other politicians and clerics interested in people not finding out about their wrongdoer friends, so there is more effort to hide what is going on and more chances to have the crime continue.

Edit: and I mean, we rarely get media outrage when an uncle is found to be molesting. Even though by far relatives and people close to the parents are the #1 source of children molestation. Why is there no media hysteria about uncles? I mean, really.

That and positions that give em the opportunity to isolate kids would appeal to em more.

Do you also believe rape isn't about sex? Power is a part of it, and power is a means to it, but it is still about sex. People who power trip tend to power trip in all areas of their lives so a rapist is not only an a**hole when it comes to his sex life but also in dealing with people in general. I don't think it is just this that people should look out for but how they generally conduct themselves.

There is not a whole lot that separates us from other primates, other than our culture and language. Take away our culture, laws, learned ethics, and we would live in a much different world. You often see similiar primate "Alpha" male behavior; the difference is our culture, along with the fact that we wear clothes.

Most people play by the rules and some make their own. But, one thing we all deal with is our nature as humans. People are in positions of trust with children are rigorously background checked for this kind of thing, but the checks are only good for those that have not been caught.

In my opinion it is those without power or influence that seek the weak for sexual exploitation, more. Those with real power and influence, like politicians, with Alpha male status, are likely not to have to exploit the weak to gain sexual pleasures.

We see high profile examples of people in power that take advantage of control and access to their prey. It's a complicated psychological issue in what makes a pedophile, but the Priests, Ministers, School Teachers, Coaches, etc. with that condition happen to have better access to their prey. Without that access, it is much harder for them to exercise their addiction.

I don't see much evidence of Politicians that are pedophiles; they really don't get the access to children that the others I mentioned in a position of trust have, but there are likely to be some as there are in almost every other segment of the population.

I don't think we can underestimate the power of pornography in the rising cases of pedophilia. If a person feeds their mind with these kind of images, it is likely to strongly influence their sexual preferences, possibly cause addicition, and influence what they do in the real world. Everyone has access to that these days, so the potential is there now more than ever, I think.

For those pedophiles that happen to have access to children in positions of trust, it is a dangerous situation for both them and those that become sexual prey. And of course, in general, the internet is another resource to get live prey.

As far as sexual conquests, in general, go, that is common with many people that exercise their Alpha male status. Too many examples to list there.

The pedophile is one subset of the people attracted to power. It is not the whole of the category.
