Do they just not want men to have sex?

It seems to be a power issue--they want to put men in their place.

Unless you are extremely unattractive, I don't understand why you need to go to a prostitute to have sex. Even if you were, it's a matter of putting up a personals ad just asking for whatever you want (there are some places where you can do that).

I guess men just like the opportunity to pay for it, like it's a birthright for them. And there are some that get off on the power dynamics specific to prostitution, I think. This is where the demand for the trafficked women and girls comes from. Then there are the men that say 'prostitution is more honest' (who sound like they think women are incapable of having no-strings-attached sex). Or the ones that just like it because it's seedy. Don't think all men that use prostitutes do it because of the unavailability of sex.

Well, it could be that British women are much easier lays than American women.

I suspect that most men would like to be so attractive that they never had to pay for sex--they would be propositioned by 5 random women per day.

I suspect that men have a much higher demand for sex than women--otherwise, either there would be no need for money to exchange hands in order to consummate the deal, or women would be as likely to pay for sex as men.

Why do the boys vote "yay" or "neigh", while the girls must vote "yes" or "no"?
That's so sexist - why can't I vote "yay" in old-timey fashion?
Come to think of it, isn't it supposed to be "yea" and "nay"?

Yea, thou art correct.

Except, in the case of paid sex, it is "Yay!"

I think it depends on what side of the political spectrum these 'feminists' reside.

I would gamble that the antis on this case are neo-conservative types of the Sarah Palin tradition speaking under the ideological duress of their male contemporaries.

By in large, the feminists I've encountered do not want to see the criminalisation of vulnerable women.

Let's take a look at two men whose political careers came to a screeching halt as a result of their dalliances with the fairer sex: Gov. Eliot Spitzer and Herman Cain.

After a hard day of lobbying with lobbyists, Gov. Spitzer would often feel horny. He would contact his procurer to procure an executive ejaculatory assistant, Miss Ashley Dupre. They would agree on the price and the services, and that would be that.

Image

Herman Cain, on the other hand, would seek to procure sexual services on the free market, from women who were not members of the profession.

Image

In both cases, the men were vilified in the media as villains, while the women were cast as poor, innocent victims.

Things have really changed since the good old days. For example:

Genesis 38 wrote:
....(Judah) and his friend Hirah of Adullam went to Timnah, where his sheep were being sheared. Someone told Tamar that her father-in-law was going to Timnah to shear his sheep. So she changed from the widow's clothes she had been wearing, covered her face with a veil, and sat down at the entrance to Enaim, a town on the road to Timnah.....

When Judah saw her, he thought that she was a prostitute, because she had her face covered. He went over to her at the side of the road and said, “All right, how much do you charge?” (He did not know that she was his daughter-in-law.)

She said, “What will you give me?”

He answered, “I will send you a young goat from my flock.”

She said, “All right, if you will give me something to keep as a pledge until you send the goat.”

“What shall I give you as a pledge?” he asked.

She answered, “Your seal with its cord and the walking stick you are carrying.” He gave them to her. Then they had intercourse, and she became pregnant. Tamar went home, took off her veil, and put her widow's clothes back on.

Judah sent his friend Hirah to take the goat and get back from the woman the articles he had pledged, but Hirah could not find her. He asked some men at Enaim, “Where is the prostitute who was here by the road?”

“There has never been a prostitute here,” they answered.

He returned to Judah and said, “I couldn't find her. The men of the place said that there had never been a prostitute there.”

Judah said, “Let her keep the things. We don't want people to laugh at us. I did try to pay her, but you couldn't find her.”

About three months later someone told Judah, “Your daughter-in-law Tamar has been acting like a whore, and now she is pregnant.”

Judah ordered, “Take her out and burn her to death.”

As she was being taken out, she sent word to her father-in-law: “I am pregnant by the man who owns these things. Look at them and see whose they are—this seal with its cord and this walking stick.”

Judah recognized them and said, “She is in the right. I have failed in my obligation to her—I should have given her to my son Shelah in marriage.” And Judah never had intercourse with her again.

In those days, a man might burn to death a female family-member who had been working as an executive ejaculatory assistant. But, there was absolutely no shame (and certainly no punishment) for a man to employ an executive ejaculatory assistant.

Now, possibly partially thanks to feminism, the tables have turned: women who provide ejaculatory assistance get all of the public sympathy, while the men are, figuratively speaking, burned.

I still don't think prostitution is about demand for sex per se, but demand for paid-for sex. I think there's an attraction to some people in being able to pay someone to do something they wouldn't do for free.

Nor do we want to see a denial of the fact that these women (and girls, men and boys) are in some cases vulnerable.

I perceive a contradiction. If men have to pay women for something that women wouldn't do fo free, then of course the men would have to pay for it.

They could get it for free somewhere else, but that would be with a woman who actually wanted to do it. What I'm saying is that some men like the women to not be into the sex itself, to be doing it for the money. They don't want a fully willing woman. It's like a little taste of rape, without the coercion or violence.

Not every man who uses prostitutes is like, but I think some are.

Many people do many things for many reasons. I do not think that you reason is the most comprehensive.

Yes, I imagine that a lot of men can technically have sex with women without prostitution. However, that does not mean that the "offer" of free sex will coincide with the "demand" of free sex. One could want to pay for sex because one does not have a girlfriend at a given moment. Also, in general, there could be more demand of sex from men and less demand by women. Paying for it would be an adjustment. Notice that this explanation is reinforced by the typical cliché of men paying drinks or meals to women.

In the end, I think that the ultimate justified or unjustified value of prostitution is beside the point. The fact remains that prostitution is widespread and not particularly dangerous as such (unlike, say, murder or arson). Its being illegal is relatively hypocritical. It is an impossible fight against reality that bears no probability of positive results. Law should exist to regulate and prevent abuses, not to stigmatize practices en bloc.

On the same note, one could also argue that some women do what they would do for free but get paid for it.

If I were to use a prostitute, it would probably be to have the liberty to tell her to get out when I finish. Not having to deal with the gushy, feely, stuff and exerting effort would be the main draw.

Oh, a bit of role play, eh? I suppose that, in some cases, one might be better off hiring a professional. A quality role-player might be difficult to cum by in the non-paid-sex market.

Legalize it

Tax it

Regulate it like strip clubs

Nevada seems to be doing ok with legal prostitution.

There was once a sex worker, I believe she was a porn star who once said

"we all get screwed in work one way or another"

How right she was.
