I am not a member of the forum whose link I posted here, although I do read it very offten when I want to laugh at people with hideously closed minds who are very judgemental and also ill informed. I just read this link.

Not only does the mother think her autistic kid will go to hell because he doesn't believe her religion, she's so worried about it that she's got a bunch of strangers on her forum worrying about him.

(Also, check out some of the ways the replies to it describe autistic folks lol! It's NUTS!)

Now, I'm not against a parent teaching their child their own religion. I think thats what parents do. Even if the parent doesn't believe in a religion and teaches the child that religions aren't real. That's fine too. It's when the parents go so far overboard like this that it bugs me.

You have to join to post on that forum, and they are notoriously picky about who they let join. This is the forum that Landover Batpist Church made fun of (Along with Westover Baptist Church) when they started their parody forum. Check it out ya'll. It's so going to p*ss off so many people here.

Then again, we are in "our own little worlds" you know. ;-)

The premise of the OP (on that other forum) is actually correct. Autists are less likely to be religious than the overall population. In fact, seeing this data was one of the major factors involved, for me, in rejecting the anti-cure movement.

Most of the responses were reasonably compassionate.

I'm not going to look at the site. I've just taken my high blood pressure medication. Don't want to counter the effect of it!

I've def noticed autistics and aspies are less likely to believe in religion.

I believe though.

I have mixed emotions about the post. It just seems so heartbreaking that the woman loves her son, and is so torn up because of the rigid doctrine of her religion. If the reason people turn to religion is for guidance and solace, then I don't see how it's providing either in this instance.

You rejected the anti-cure movement because Autistics are less likely to be religious? Erm ... could you please elaborate on that point a little more?
