Because of the beastliness of the French and British leadership at Versailles and the utter stupidity and blindness of of Woodrow Wilson, the Great War was just a prelude to a greater War that started in 1939. Just 20 years after the peace treaty of Versailles was forced down the throat of Germans (a most unjust treaty it was) the blood letting began again. The sacrifices made at Flanders field were for naught.

John McCrae's poem is quite important in Canada, being strongly associated with Remembrance Day (which occurs today - as the armistice with Germany was signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month).

I always buy one of the little poppies when the vets sell them,my Uncle E. was a W.W. One vet,he was 98 when he died,my children were very little but they remember him,he's the only one they ever met.

Everytime a coalition soldier dies in Afghanistan, another soldier who perished in the trenches during the great war died in vain.

Veteran's Day, Armistice Day and Remembrance Day.

A moment of silence for our fallen soldiers is in order.

Take that moment to reflect.

Just a few notes...

November 11 is also the birthday of General George Patton.

I had to remind our pastor that today is Veteran's Day. He seemed surprised, but made a few half-hearted mentions during his sermon of sacrifice and devotion to duty anyway.

My home was the only one within three blocks that had an American flag on display. I put mine up every Veteran's Day, Election Day, Memorial Day, and my birthday (because I'm a veteran, too).

I still have my uniform, with all the ribbons, hanging in my closet. If I can still march in 20 years, I'll be one of those old geezers you see in Veteran's Day parades. Too bad that most towns no longer have Veteran's Day parades.

I just came from the room of a young woman in labor; her child will be born 11/11/2012. A good day, yes? Through pain and into a new life: not minimizing the pain, but moving on from it in the hope for something better. Let's all tell our politicians to get us out of the wars that we're in, and stop getting us into new ones.
