Should people be allowed to have sex in public?

My brain and sence of morality say no but my instincts and hormones say yes!

It depends what you mean by 'public'.

not only should it be encouraged, but some entrepreneurs should sell advertising space on all that bare flesh, and for one final moneymaking step, at the moment of climax they should both scream the name of a major sponsor, such as "ah, ah AH AWWWW WALMART!! ! [pant pant]."

My opinion is that our answers should all be No even if people are going to do it anyways. It at least signals to society that we prefer you keep it a private act.

If they are going to do it anyways, there will be more attempts to hide their act away from others as they understand the social values of the society and want their fun without any shame. Let them have their fun if no one can see them, and the importance here is not whether the act is prohibited, but that the value communicates the message, and the message is received and affirmed. I much rather have people who know it is not right to have sex in front of others and make at least some effort to hide the act then people who may or may not have sex publicly, but think nothing wrong of it. There's hope for a society filled the former.

There are swinger clubs where you can already do that.

I'm trying to work this one out, so here goes. I would have to question the motives of anyone who'd want to do such a thing in public. I've seen a couple of strangers in a car, right outside my parents' house, doing it. It was quite obvious that they were just trying to shock or were getting excited by it, as they could quite easily have gone somewhere more private. I don't view sexual encounters as dirty or anything like that, but for them to do this in full view of everyone said to me that they were probably enjoying being 'naughty'. OK, it's fine for an adult to see it and we didn't call the police. We actually thought it was quite funny that they were going out of their way to attempt to shock us. But, I would not want for my daughter to be exposed to that. Those people getting excited, by her seeing them, would turn my stomach. And I wouldn't want her to end up with weird ideas about sex, when it's just a normal part of life.

I would need to know, what you mean with "in public"? That a major traffic crossing is "in public" i understand, but whats about forests where theres a small chance that a mushroom gatherer can see you by accident or a park at 2:00 in the morning? Would that count as "public" related to the question.

Generally i say, as long as the participating people are grown up and they are doing it in mutual consent, i see no problem. (As long as they are not blocking the traffic or anything in this way.)

That is Disturbing the Peace and under Common Law a misdemeanor.

All that huffing, puffing groaning and yelling is something that out to be done in private.

You'd probably need to tackle public indecency laws first. Unless you could devise some sort of burqa-esque cover for two.

Oh, and remember that [/i]anyone[i] would be allowed to do it, not just pretty people. Think of the average slob on the street - do you really want to see that action?

I would rather not see people copulating at a bus stop, in the shopping center, in front of the place I work, in my lawn or anywhere else where people are bound to spot them. Think of it this way: there are some people you know you'd hate to think of them being in the nude...

it has been completely normal and without any moral problems for a much much longer time during mens long history than the current moral that it is not accepted and should be private and hidden away…

the same goes with the values of beauty…

so i see absolute no problem at all letting people decide themselves where and when they want to copulate.

it would be refreshing for a change, seeing people doing nice things to each other, instead of violence and hatred everywhere.

there are nearly non restriction on how much blood, killing and violence can be shown on TV… people even tune in to see it in all detail. but the same movie goes black as soon as they kiss.

It should be like having a parade.

Allowed only if you have a permit.

Only the qualified ( ie good looking and talented etc) would be allowed after a lengthy beauracratic registration process.

unless you are a creationist and really think that the world you live in is only 6000 years old and had societies and streets from day 6, i don't understand your need for an explanation…

do you really think that homo sapiens or the neanderthals switched of the electric lights a night, while humping around in their private bedroom behind thick curtains?

or for that matter… that the vikings didn't have sex in their longhouses, where all families and generations slept in one single big room?

or the american native population did not copulate inside their wigwam, amongst elders and children, and were not audible outside the tent?

oh boy.. you are very much out of synch with reality then.
