Unfortunately the tea party which was started by libertarians was hijacked by the religious bigots and yokels of the Republican right wing. Most unfortunate. The libertarian types were tarred with the same brush as used against the religious right wing.
That makes it tough for people like me. I detest the neo-fascist Statist impulses of the Democrat so-called liberals. They desecrate the term which referred to the parties in England that wanted a more democratic way of governing. The so-called liberals or neo-liberals want to make the government the central engine or our society. They are also maniac egalitarians. Unfortunately we are governed (mostly) by congenital ward-heelers and incompetents. The Republicans, as they are now constituted are hardly any better. They too are Statist and push a big government programs, except their version is the Crony Capitalist Manifesto.
People like me are basically without a party. That is why I vote Independent in every election.
