Do you know anyone who hasn’t broken the law?

Most people would not say they break the law, because they think “breaking the law” refers to felonies. However, have you ever done one of these things:
*Jaywalked?
*Gotten a speeding ticket?
*Put soda in a water cup at a restaurant?
*Snuck into a second movie?
*Hit a deer?
*Parked illegally?
*Photographed art in a museum?
*Videotaped a theater play?

I would bet most of you have done at least one of these things. So technically, most of us have broken the law once or twice. You (hopefully) haven’t done what most people would refer to as “breaking the law,” but you’ve probably done it in the literal sense.

can you explain jaywalking to me? I get that it is crossing the road where you shouldn't but I assume it is more nuanced than that. what areas is it restricted to? how do you know if you are in a jaywalk free zone?

Jaywalking is when you cross at the red light, rather than the green light.

Plus.....crossing in the middle of the street, rather than where the lights or signs are.

Yup. Been there, done that. Haven't done any of the others mentioned above, though.

Technically, a person cannot "break the law" until he/she becomes 7 years old in the United States.

I don't think I've ever done any of those things. Several of them I wouldn't able to do anyway, because I've never learned to drive.

But when I was younger I did make a few illegal copies of some video tapes I rented.

Jaywalking seems odd to me. It's like saying they don't think the public are trustworthy/intelligent enough to cross a road

I've never seen a "no jaywalking" sign in New York City. I've seen them in other places.

If you don't want to jaywalk, just cross at the green light, at the corner of the intersection. Or in places which are marked for people to cross the street.

Exactly. It's ret*d. I remember this story about a professor that came over from Britain, old man, got brutalized by the police for Jaywalking even though the road was empty.

Can't be trusted to cross the road but you can be trusted to have a gun at your waist.

I've eaten a mince pie on Christmas day, pretty sure all Brits have.

My stepdad insists on jay walking so either I'm in the middle of a busy city with him and I'm walking along a long pavement away from him or I go with him.

I hate it.

He also insists on crossing at the red man.

I jaywalk all the time.

New Yorkers are notorious for being jaywalkers. I am one of those who are guilty of it.

As a driver, I really don't like jaywalkers because I fear hitting one of them.

I also once photographed art during my first trip to an art museum in Atlanta and didn't realize it was illegal to do that.

That deer hit me first. It was self-defense.

As a pedestrian I don't like doing it. It scares me for that reason.

But I also don't like being abandoned at one side of the road when I'm meant to be going out with someone rather than on my own.

So I'm stuck?
