Porn councillor David Sprason faces two-month suspension] (BBC News)

A Leicestershire county councillor faces a two-month suspension after a pornographic DVD was found in his work laptop.

Councillor David Sprason stepped down as deputy council leader in November over the DVD, which was found in 2007.

A report compiled after an internal investigation said Mr Sprason had showed "a serious lack of judgement".

The DVD was found in Mr Sprason's work laptop in 2007, but no action was taken at the time.

Anyone think this is, erm, even slightly vindictive?

Comments?

Note it happened on a work computer! If it was his own laptop then it wouldn't of been an issue. Also I think that its iffie that its taken six years to investigate the matter.

Exactly. All you do when a councillor does that is tell them not to leave their porn in the drive. If they keep doing it over and over, then there might be a case to answer.

^ I done a bit of research and think I know why this is back in the lime light after six years.

Sprason was deputy leader of the council up until November. He quit as deputy leader after he leaked a letter to the local press about the DVD.

I think this investigation now is in part to do with looking into the leak, as no action was taken back in 2007.

I have little sympathy.

A laptop is issue to me by my employer on the express condition that I use the laptop exclusively for work purposes. If I want to watch videos (whether porn, youtube or netflix), update facebook or comment on the latest threads on WP, then I can use my phone, my tablet or my own computer for the purpose.

My point is that if this was a problem then it should have been dealt with when originally discovered back in 2007, probably with a warning.

Bringing a minor matter like this up more than five years later strikes me as a case where someone has a grudge against him.

It strikes me as being against natural justice to be pulled up for a very minor infraction years later.

The point is that he wasn't surfing for porn on his laptop. He was watching a DVD. Once the DVD had been removed, there would have been no record of what was playing on the laptop (if the disc wasn't unfortunate enough to be discovered). It wouldn't be the same if he was surfing the Internet for porn.
