It seems the attempt to curb crime by proposing legislation to reduce the number of guns in private hands has a reverse effect in reality.

NYT article: Sales of Guns Soar in U.S. as Nation Weighs Tougher Limits

“If I had 1,000 AR-15s I could sell them in a week,” said Jack Smith, an independent gun dealer in Des Moines, referring to the popular style of semiautomatic rifle that drew national attention after Adam Lanza used one to kill 20 children and 6 adults at a Newtown school. “When I close, they beat on the glass to be let in,” Mr. Smith said of his customers. “They’ll wave money at me.”

Obviously, Americans are taking a stand.

Why, because a country that likes guns is crazy? If you don't like it, there is always the UK.

Also, the AR-15 was left in the trunk, but saying that would not help the media's crusade to help Washington to get support for a new AWB.

They'll just go after handguns AND "assault rifles". Kill two birds with one stone.
The ultimate goal is to ban all of them.
The way it looks, though, the voters won't be forgiving of any kind of ban.

They probably want everything that is not a standard deer rifle or revolver banned.

A deer rifle can be dubbed a "sniper rifle" which will be vilified sooner or later.
A revolver is still a handgun.
It's a campaign against weapons in general one bite at a time....

I'm just glad I got my 9mm before all of this (albeit its arcing brass out in the wrong direction :? ). I do feel kinda bad though that I missed out on getting my hands on an AR-15, no doubt those things will nearly double in value for a while.

After this fails in the House and dies down, the people that bought the priced gouged AR's will undoubtedly be upset that the rifle that they spent 2k on is worth half that.

A guy I know got his for $800 right before new years. I'd agree though, buying it at an inflated rate would be a terrible idea.

Yeah, my next door neighbor wants an AR. I advised him to wait until things cool off.
You can't even find one right now, anyways, or the ammo to use with it.

S&W MP 9. The eject port is both top and side. For whatever reason I'll get pegged between the eyes or have brass falling down my shirt at least one out of three rounds. Have a friend who's willing to work on it for me if its still doing that after 500 to 1000 rounds (just to be sure its not just a stiff spring).

I know .223/5.56 is pretty much gone, but what about 6.8 SPC, .300 Blackout, and other "bridge" calibers?

I heard those are problematic, ie. they don't handle their own ballistics well and break down fast because of it (which is why they'd still be left).

Between my two M&P 9's, I probably have 50,000 rounds through and the casings always eject back and to the right (but mostly to the right).

It seems odd that you'd be getting rounds in the face unless they were ejecting straight back (an old sig p226 I used to have did that). I'm assuming you're shooting left-handed. Mind if I ask what your normal grip and stance is? And do you know if you're left or right eye dominant?

I have an M&P .45. It doesn't have that issue and it doesn't seem to me like it should eject that way. Have you contacted Smith & Wesson about it? If it's defective they I would think they'd repair it for you under warranty.
I like the way the M&P fits my hand. The only thing I don' like is having to remember to push down on the ejector when I take it apart. They could have designed that better IMHO.

I haven't even looked for those calibers but I imagine they are in smaller supply than they were before, especially 6.8 since it has some following.
Even reloading components like projectiles for common calibers are out of stock on all of the supplier's websites.
I've had to cut back on my shooting because I don't want to dig in to my existing stash until I know it can be replaced.
Even .22 LR is hard to get now.
