What a waste. Just label them as horsemeat&beef burgers and let the customers decide. With all the media attention there are probably plenty of people who want to try horsemeat

But this batch of fine horsemeat is "contaminated" by 25% of cow meat. That needs to be labeled, otherwise consumers think they get pure horsemeat.

I've eaten horse meat and it is really good. A lot like venison. I'll have a double horse burger with fries please.

Do you realize you say the same thing every time the Irish are mentioned? Oi vay!!

I had eaten horse meat when I was a youngster, and I recall it as being rather good. People just have some aversion to eating horses, thinking that they're magnificent animals, compared to ugly, stupid pigs and cattle. But no one has a problem with using Elmer's Glue.

If you eat the McRib I don't think you're that picky about meat.

I bet Tonto could. The Apache had had the reputation as regarding horses as food on two legs, which they'd ride to death, then eat.

Chevaline makes for good eating. It is only the Anglosphere that has a cultural taboo against it.

Almost every country in Europe has traditional fare made from horse meat, and many have featured horse in a variety of haute cuisine preparations. It is a regular source of meat for curing.

And taboos notwithstanding, horse was certainly part of the British diet--primarily in the North--well into the twentieth century.

It has to be remembered that horses were commonplace, working animals. And once these animals had fulfilled their useful life, many would have considered it wasteful to dispose of a perfectly good source of nutritious meat. It is only in the last century that the horse has ceased to be a common working animal, which has led to its elevation more akin to a pet.

I'd eat it no problem, and I wouldn't apologise for it either.

Eating horse meat is no worse than eating pork (I don't eat this), given that pigs are more intelligent than horses. Sheep and cattle are deliberately bred to be stupid and docile, though.

I think many people oppose the eating of horses because they're "cuter" than cattle. In any case, it's perfectly legal in most (if not all) European countries to consume horse meat.

It's fully legal in the UK as well, there's just a taboo against it.

Probably because horses are cuter than cattle. Ban consumption of pork and ban the hunting of bears, foxes, badgers, wolves, lynxes or any other highly intelligent predator before you ban horse meat.
