I have to laugh at stories like this. I marvel at the sheer cheek of the Labour Party for daring to lecture parties like UKIP:

Can anyone imagine the sheer rage that would come from Labour Party circles (and others on the left) if UKIP had chosen a former BNP activist to stand for them in elections?

It's well worth nothing that a) this is not an isolated incident - Labour allowed the wife of a former leader of a neo-Nazi organisation to become a Labour councillor last year. Here's a story from 2004 showing a former BNP councillor joining Labour[/url] and b) UKIP are the only party in this country that bans members - or former members - of the BNP, EDL, BFP, Britain First, UKFP and so on and so forth from standing. Farage tells people who hate foreigners for being non-British to vote for the BNP.

But as is so commonly the case on the left, it's a case of "do as I say, not as I do". They don't think that the same moral standards apply to them, and that when they do bad behaviour (or what they accuse their opponents of) it's OK.

If he has genuinely done a 180 on his original views, I dont see what the problem is.

As far as I am aware UAF has at least one BNP defector.

I would rather he defects to the progressive camp than being recirculated to the far right gutter.

And they're violent fascistic thugs as well, as they're the people who go to EDL marches more often than not deliberately to cause trouble. (Doesn't mean I have much sympathy for the yobs on the other side, before you shout.)



Yet if UKIP (or the Conservatives, for that matter) had announced that he was standing you'd be screaming from the rooftops saying that they support fascists and the like. I'm glad that UKIP rejects former members of far-right parties from joining them (including members of the EDL). I hope they apply the same rigorousness to groups like the UAF and supporters of Islamist organisations. I would like UKIP to go further and to remove at least two MEPs (Slavi Binev and Jaroslav Paška) from its European Parliamentary grouping, one of whom is due to speak at the UKIP conference.

As I say: it's "do as I say, not as I do". If they can be considered 'progressive', they can be excused all manner of deeds and you wonder why considerable parts of the left in this country is seen by many on the right as being morally bankrupt. It's transparent and pathetic. (Not all of the left, mind you - there are plenty of lefties I'd enjoy a drink with and a chat.)

Meanwhile, I'm loving the absolute hilariousness that is the SWP fiasco at the moment.

Firstly and foremost you need to check your definition of 'fascistic'.

Secondly, you say that, but what exactly is UKIP doing to advocate against the venom spewed by the EDL and their kin?

That is why I respect the UAF, it does what it says on the tin. As for their detractors whose side are you on? Either take a s**t or get off the pot.
