...is deemed a security risk.

I am talking about Egypt's security police, who have banned a screening of a documentary about the persecution and en masse flight of Jews from Egypt, many of whom fled to Israel, North America and European countries.

Quote:
A nation so racist that the cinematic depiction of Jews is deemed a security risk

The most egregious example of bias against Israel demonstrated by the mainstream media is the dynamic by which they quickly frame events in the state in a manner consistent with the most unserious caricatures – narratives which impute the worst faith, the most malicious motivations, and often devoid of relevant context.

In such a journalistic paradigm, a street fight between Jewish and Arab teens becomes fodder for an ‘examination‘ of institutional Israeli racism, some Jewish soccer hooligans expressing bigotry towards Muslims suggests the urgent need that Israelis engage in national ‘soul-searching‘, a question of whether Ethiopian immigrants to Israel were provided enough information on a contraceptive injection morphs into a systemic attempt to reduce the black population; and the introduction of new bus lines to serve Palestinians who work in Israel is framed as an insidious form of segregation.

In all these examples, the prejudiced actions of a few Israelis, or policies which may have the effect of being injurious to minority groups in the state, are exploited by Israel’s critics to suggest a ‘dangerous lurch right’, or to suggest that there is something fundamentally wrong – immutable and beyond repair – with the state or indeed with the idea of Zionism itself.

Israel is held to a higher standard than other countries. If a film about the persecution of arabs was not allowed to even be shown in theatres in Israel (or probably anywhere for that matter) because of security risk there would probably be global outrage.

Thanks for posting this.

Allowing this film to play would show the truth. And that would mess up all the whole scapegoat thing.

Israel has the virtually blind support of the USA. When people ask why, Israel's propagandists often say that it's right that the West should support Israel against the countries that surround it because Israel is "Western" and "democratic" and all the rest of it.

So if people in the West criticise Israel for its treatment of Palestinians, Israeli Arabs, Ethiopian minorities etc, it's a bit rich of pro-Israel propagandists to complain "oh why don't you spend more time criticising Egypt/Iran/Sudan instead".

If such a thing happened, I doubt the average American would even hear about it.

have there actually been films about arab persecution made outside the arab world? I doubt it.

moreover how does the intracacies of the Egyptian media validate Israel's position? Egypt of late is an Al Quaeda stronghold. Its an irrelevancy.

^^^
The point the author of the article makes is that Israel is held to higher standards than other countries and that the standard for how Israelis must treat and show respect for arabs is higher than the standard for how arabs must treat or show respect for jews (especially in arab countries). That's the relevance.

An example is the article you posted about an Israeli solider guy making a comment on Facebook (if it is even him) about wanting to kill Arabs. How many examples do you think I could find of Arab soldiers saying they want to kill jews? Nobody says boo. Hell the leaders of the Palestinian people , Hamas , have it in their f'ing charter that they want to kill Jews.

Yup.

As the author mentions:
Quote:
So, while the Guardian provided saturation coverage of the bigoted reaction by some football hooligans to the introduction of two Muslim players to the Beitar Jerusalem team, an Egyptian football match in which fans hung banners explicitly calling for anther Holocaust against Jews went unreported.

When some rabbis in Safed encouraged Jews not to rent property to Arabs (an act universally condemned by Israeli leaders), ‘Comment is Free’ published a piece characterizing the event as nothing short of an example of a rising tide of fascism. However, news that the President of Egypt had called Jews ‘sons of apes and pigs‘ and called on the country to nurture their children on antisemitic hate was only mentioned in passing in Guardian reports about other topics – and wasn’t the subject of righteous condemnation by contributors or editors.

When a few bigots in Israel act like tossers over a couple of Muslim players, it's international news and it's latched onto forever more, and the Guardian and other anti-Israel folk go on and on and on and write article after article about it.

When the (to be) Egyptian president says that their children and grandchildren should be nurtured on hatred of Jews and Israelis - silence in the Guardian and on the anti-Israel left.
When Syrian Palestinians are massacred - we've seen a constant silence from the anti-Israel left.
When other Arab countries have been treating their Palestinian refugees like the scum off their shoes - silence from the anti-Israrl left.

And so on. The hypocrisy of the 'pro-Palestinian' left never ceases to amaze.

Interesting aswell might be that the so-called 'pro-Palestinians' are not so much this but fare more anti-Israeli.
The way the states bordering on Israel treat Palestinian refugees is way worse than the way Israel treats them. But no comment about that from those who pretend to defend the Palestinian cause.

Nice article. It is one step away from concluding something that would be very important for the evolution of the left. The fact that Israel is held to much higher standards is an indirtect and subconscious admission that arab muslim countries are much less civilised. This is a form of subconscious prejudice and can have undesirable consequencesd such as blaming solely Israel for the palestinian problem and, more generaly, for the problems in the middle east. It's a case of overcompensation of the real problem: prejudice against the muslim world. And one thing that I've learned is that it's better to have your prejudices known so that you can work on them than having them work in the shadow. Having them hidden in the psyche will never allow for overcoming the prejudice. This is the self exam that the left has to do to have a more fair aproach to the islam problem.

I think we both know why this is. A lot of the bourgeois left has a contempt for Islam and Muslims it dares not voice. Their behaviour is arguably more Islamophobic than that of those who actually treat Muslims like adults.

I'm surprised that you're surprised by it.

It won't do it because 'the left' is no longer a grass-roots working class movement. Hypocrisy is an inevitable with the movement as it is.

I speak of left wing individuals recognising this prejudice. This has to be done by each individual. Nobody else can do it for another.

That would have an impact on the left wing movements and partys in which left wing individuals are.

The real problem, of course, is that Muslims have to face up to the fact that their religion is, unfortunately, inherently bigoted. It's not their fault that their religion is the way it is, but refusing to face up to it (which will probably mean a move away from Islam) will mean that the savagery and the constant offence-taking will continue. This will never happen unless the West grows a spine and starts naming the real problem in the room and that, unfortunately, is Islamic teachings and scripture and the brutal, uncivilised way of life that prevails in Muslim country after Muslim country.

A lot of these problems would be solved if we simply judged Islam by the same standards as we would judge most other beliefs without the moral relativism, and we stopped pandering to this nonsense in our own countries (for a start). We could start by exposing these people, and by aiding apostates and different ways of thinking. Our universities could help too, by kicking out the extremists where they are found.

I have a few more of these that you might be interested in. Written by very decent folk of Muslim backgrounds.

Yes, that is a much bigger problem. However, I'm not interested in puting my life on the line trying to raise consciousnesses publicly of the piece of garbage that is islam. I know how that Swedish cartoonist who lives in Denmark has to be constantly looking over the sholder to see if a muslim wants to kill him, just because he drew a cartoon. I don't want to live that kind of life, even on a smaller scale. Anonimously online? Sure! In my real life? I have more important things to do with my precious life.
