This is what I do not understand about this quote. Does this quote give one a choice or is it a quote stating consequences or is it a mix of both?

To me, it seems like it is a mix of both. If it is then Jesus is stating that this is one of the terms that he has stated to all of humanity is this correct? Is this absolute?

My question based upon this is, why is suicide considered a sin at all?

Apostle Paul said it, not Jesus.

Jesus was a hippie. He said to the crowd: Consider the lilies of the field, then neither toil nor do they spin....

Jesus promised the ultimate Free Meal which according to the sage Robert A. Heinlein does not exist.

I'm with Jesus; I like considering the lilies. But Heinlein is probably right.
"If you don't work you shall not eat" is true - we have to consume so much to survive there is no way we could do so without having to actually produce a crop/or chase down a mammoth. We've eaten our way out of Eden.

The apostle Paul said it...

"For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: 'If a man will not work, he shall not eat'." -- 2 Thessalonians 3:10

... he also dictated that women should remain silent and submissive ...

"Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church." -- 1st Corinthians 14:34-35

... and that slaves should obey their masters...

"Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free." -- Ephesians 6:5-8

Ecce Christianismus.
("Behold Christianity")

It's not the religion, it's the people that are hypocrites. Christianity is based on a collection of largely apocryphal stories that were passed down orally and embellished upon for thousands of years before ever being written down. Leaders of each Christian sect "cherry-picks" its doctrines from the collection and imposes them on people, who will display their piety in a religious setting while robbing, raping and murdering their families and neighbors "in the name of God".

Other than that one small detail, I agree with you - Christianity is full of hypocrites, and Christians are full of hypocrisy ... well, they're full of something, anyway ...

It is a known fact that the early Christian Church practiced a pure form of Communism. Since everything was free there was a temptation to show up during mealtimes even if you spent your entire day gossiping. If everyone did that there would be no food. Therefore some sort of work ethic had to be established even though Communism greatly reduced the work burden the work burden was not eliminated entirely.

The difference between Jesus Christ and Karl Marx was that Communism was voluntary rather than forced.

Also Christianity allows capitalistic reforms. For example if people refuse to work people are encouraged to get their own jobs and buy their own food rather than share. What should happen is people will realize for themselves that the Capitalistic system is inefficient and that the work burden is greatly reduced under Communism. But if no one works Communism will collapse. When people realize how life was easier under Communism maybe they will put a little effort into it to prevent its collapse.

Unfortunately the Religious Right has interpreted that the temporary Capitalist reforms were proof that Capitalism is God's system.

Quote:
"For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: 'If a man will not work, he shall not eat'." -- 2 Thessalonians 3:10

I will explain. From my interpretation God told them that they had a rule that had to be applied amongst all men.

The rule is if a man will not work, he shall not eat. This implies to me that God told the masses to give each individual man a choice.

Work or Not Eat. In formal Boolean logic it is W or ~N

Let's take this logic further. This means the man has the option of choosing not to eat as well. If one chooses not to eat he will die of starvation. This implies that God has given the choice of either working or dying. This means by my understanding of this one can choose to die and therefore suicide is not a sin whatsoever since God has given permission by choice to kill himself through the rule of work or don't eat.

If I am wrong in the way I am reading this quote will someone show me please? http://bible.cc/2_timothy/3-16.htm

Will someone show me reproof and correct my thinking if they do not mind?

Interpreting it your way would mean that God gave equal ethical weight to working and eating versus not working and starving. Having a choice between two options doesn't mean that neither of those options is therefore a sin. Free will means that all sin is freely chosen. So if you choose to never work and therefore starve to death, you've made the sinful choice.
