Has anyone else here (besides me) done jail or prison time of any kind ?
I go into some detail about my (relatively brief and rather " mild " , admittedly - Although I think I didn't cover a couple of not-so-nice parts in what I posted here , IIRC) jail time recently in , as I just said , parts of " the posts with my monicker in the title " .
It occurs to me that the distiction between " jail " and " prison " may be more an American one , legally/terminology-wise:
Basically , a " jail " is more local , town/city/county-based , while " prison " is more state/national-level and , in theory , stays in jail are often " being held before trial/on observation " for - in theory - shorter periods of time , while " prison " is , in theory , more " sentenced " and for longer periods of time .
Did I say " in theory " enough ?????????! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !!

Nope, I've been an Honorary member of the Sheriffs Association.....(or does that count as a criminal organization?) :)

I got in trouble once for firing fireworks aimed at police as a teen, I got in a fight with a uniformed deputy at 17 and we both ended up getting kicked out of a movie theater but not arrested. I had some anger issues in my youth.

The closest I've ever been arrested was at 16 when I was pulled over in a car with a few ounces of weed, and some extravagant bongs. My buddies took the rap, and I got away. I was basically a good kid, all I ever did was smoke pot, but I never stole in my life. In my 20's I used to hang out with petty criminals, bookies, loan sharks and what have you but not bad guys. Today, I hang out with a more reputable crowd.

Beyond perhaps some hypothetical "smuggling" of European absinthe a few times in the past...(not a crime to possess, though.) I'm a good buy.

Ahh, now I understand. You're a drug smuggler. Now I know you're full of it. I never did any of that, at all.

You are nice. It probably added to your character or something like that.

I was arrested many times as a teenager, such things like grand theft auto, criminal tresspassing, breaking and entering, yada yada yada. Always got off, never did time and have a sealed record.
Aaahhh, the luxuries of being white, upper middle class and parents with connections.

...Thank you , Miss .
For me , after the roughly 3 weeks that was the longest time I spent , there was an odd " time machine " effect when I got back out again it was sort of intereingt - if only on a " hit yourself on the head because it feels good when you stop " effect ??????? Hum . I'm sort of saying something " silly " there , just to say something . I can't quite find the words now to go into this here , I am sort of trying to wrap this one up now to go on to the next part...
But speaking of physical pain , dig this:
Pretty much the entire three weeks , EVERY minute , I felt a little stinging pain in the bottom part of my stomach - Sort of like a really small electiric shock-inducer was being held to that point of my stomach .
Furthermore , I generally had a kind of duller , milder?? pain in my upper shoulders and neck ~ I could tell it was a visceral bodily rwaction on myself in reaction to being confined , the " sting " in my lower stomach especially - EVERY MINUTE I was there , essentially . I mentioned this to another prisoner , he said " Yeah , I feel it too " .
I guess the jail was a rather " mild " one , one pount of that being that the " population check " was held in a relatively mild way ~ Meaining the guards coming in and making a rollcall essentially , from what I've read in " harder " jails people in cells have to stand up and touch/ a certain stop/stay in position when answering the rollcall or possibly REALLY get in trouble - They tended to hold it late at night/early in the morning there and , basically , it was while we were in beds/bunks already , they6'd come over to where we were and we'd answer - Of course , I was in a " General Population " situation where we were in a permanent barracks/dormitory situation , umpteen people on the main floor of our block (about 15-19 during the week up to 24-27 by the end of the weekend - Tending towards petty/nobody hurt DUIs and domestic violence cases that got bailed/released fairly early in the week , this also being how slightly more " repectable/middle-class " folks came inside) , bunks of 3 plus " boats "/matresses directly on the floor - Um , it was - the block itself plus a walled in yard outside (Maybe the whole inside floor the size of a largish junior high classroom) , said yard at least allowing some nice sun within ~ and afour or so levels of fence (Or whatever the precise term was .) over the top of the (Open 10-12 hours daily .) yard - Um , we were essentially there absolutely 24/7 , or maybe just outside the front door being given our pills/whatever unless going to the nurse's station or a couple times we were shooed out to wait somewhere else for the block to be cleaned/searched - Um , that's a maybe little nongrammatical a sentence but the point s , essentially , we were there ABSOLUTELY 24-7 (Meals were brought to us on plastic trays , you lined up at the front door for them) , and I never saw - let alone touched - anything green/living , except for seeing them from inside the jail van , going back and forth to court (chained) for dates there for my entire time there ! !! !! !! !!

...A higher level generally had " stronger " prisoners , more " regular " - Non-violent by definition , I guess , but with mucho priors/larger charges , I suppose - housed there .
I mean literally a " higher level " , a reached-via-a-staircase had the " more priors " guys there , though they might occasionally be brought down - For crowdedness - to our floor to sleep there , or , actually , there were punishment/;ocked cells at the back of our floor as well , which were almost always?? occupied by people from other blocks brought there .
BTW , there is a cite called " CountyJail.Net " , find it , look up California , then Santa Cruz County I gave them free content/told my story , calling myself " Jhn " , IIRC .
Some people were there , sentenced , for pretty long times (Though I'm nt absolutely sure they were to be in this block for the whole time .) , in actual time - Not officiall sentenced time , which would come to considerably longer , but got , effectively , cut 50% upon admission due to the jail being so crowded and you'd have to be a total 100% A-Hole/turkey to get that time put back - Not the official time , but actual , terms I was told were up to 15 months or so .
This one was , IIRC , from someone who said that he was innocent of the specific charge he was in on but admitted he had something like 65 priors of theft ! !! !! !! !!

I spent a weekend in central booking in NYC after getting caught smoking pot. It was extremely crowded, and we were told that the phones were "out of service". Eventually the charge was dismissed. This was the Christmas weekend of 2001. Very uncomfortable and humiliating. They would wake everyone up at 3 am or so, stuff like that. The corrections guys were yelling at the cops, because the whole place was stuffed with assorted misdemeanors, making the isolation and processing of dangerous criminals more difficult.

A cop once threatened to give me a parking ticket. True story. But seriously, I would not be able to live in prison. Maybe in the Nordic countries, but not in the gold ol' US of A.

I guess that solitary confinement wouldn't be so bad, if I at least had some decent books.

I have not.

I did get some speeding tickets. Once I was ticketed for 'following too closely' because there was a cop in front of me who intentionally slowed down.

No jail time for me.

However, my family would be happy if I ever became incarcerated.
