I'd like to make a specific comment about the Catholic Church: They really do have far too much control over people and certain countries. I am not into conspiracy theories like the Illuminati, though. But they have some people who are really, really close minded and are working against the common good. I also do not like religious propaganda. Anyways...
I do not trust governments, and I think that's a good thing. However, just because I do not trust them, does not mean I am actively looking for some sort of conspiracy. There will be people who try and manipulate and control people, especially if they manage to control the information you receive. But, man, the people you talk about annoy me. I know one of them, and he drives me nuts. All they have to do is reflect upon facts at hand. You can look up data, laws, law proposals, so on. I'm pretty sure people in Nazi Germany knew, for the most part, what was going on for a while before it got really bad. I highly doubt something really, really out there is just going to randomly pop up.
However, the USA government, along with others, really annoy me. They are screwing over the middle class, and I'll tell you why: They deregulated the financial industry for a while, and the results have been a giant housing bubble that we still haven't seen the full negative effects of. The Federal Reserve is helping keep insolvent banks afloat, and wealth inequality is becoming a bigger gap. The lower the income inequality (at least to an extent), the bigger the middle class. The more middle class you have, the better off your people are. I can't say I know what will happen, but I can say first world governments have been keeping back the truth (the data is out there, but it's just not advertised) and encouraging asset bubbles.
Also, I suspect some of these people might be Schizophrenic. They connect dots where there are no dots. Of course, not all Schizophrenic people are that paranoid.
