Islamists planned to spark sectarian war by bombing EDL
- Aim was to spark sectarian war with attacks at extreme right-wing gathering
The plot was uncovered by luck after an online insurance form was incorrectly filled and resulted in one of the bombers’ cars being impounded during a motorway police check as they returned home after the aborted operation.
Guns, machetes, swords and a home-made nail bomb were found in the car’s boot two days after it was seized sparking a huge security operation that netted the six Birmingham-based militants. Declarations of war were also found in the boot addressed to the “kafir (non-believer) female and self-proclaimed Queen Elizabeth” and David Cameron.

Its as though war had been declared by the Chuckle Brothers. I swear there'd be a lot more bloodshed if most of these wannabe jihadis could organise a pissup in a brewery. ![]()

both sides of the same rotten coin.
'Nuff said.
The only curious thing is that no EDL arrests were made, considering that this was blatantly a cynical attempt to go to somewhere multicultural like Birmingham to stir s**t and provoke a reaction from Islamists like a St George's cross bear trap. Then again, if you look at history, the police have always had a track record of defending and enabling fascist activism.

Complete apologist bollocks, but then I'd expect that from you.
When the EDL are involved in massacring civilians and trying to massacre civilians based on their constitution, I will agree with you.
The EDL are not a fascist grouping. They are not trying to stifle free speech. The far-left organisations that oppose them are far more fascist than the EDL will ever be. That said, there are some decidedly unpleasant (and indeed criminal) people in the EDL.
People have moral agency, you know.
The correct example is the one that most Muslims follow - they just ignore them and laugh at the more bigoted fools in their membership.

Most Muslims are peaceful people. I know because I am one. I find your comment offensive and inaccurate. Get a brain before you post s**t like this you moron.
Stop with the insults and please read what I have said again.
I said that most Muslims are peaceful people and, like the rest of us, ignore the likes of the EDL (and treat the more idiotic types with derision). I am agreeing with you.
I said that the far-left groupings in this country that turn up to disrupt EDL demonstrations and use violence do more damage to free speech than the EDL does.
I said that Islamist terrorists are not the same as the EDL, because Islamist terrorists kill people on a regular basis (and usually back up their murder with Islamic scripture).
The EDL do not do the equivalent of this. Even the criminal, neo-Nazi and violent elements of the EDL have never massacred civilians.

Not complete bollocks at all. Both groups are trying to stifle inter community trust and cultivate fear, loathing and suspicion against anyone who subscribes to interpretations of the other's religion of any variety. Of course I would expect such spin from a wingnut like you. Perhaps UKIP has more in common with the EDL than they feel comfortable admitting.
The EDL are not a fascist grouping. They are not trying to stifle free speech.
Not yet they're not. All that stuff comes after their ilk take power.
The holocaust was never outlined in Mein Kampf.
Or in other words, you don't have a clue what fascism is.
The correct example is the one that most Muslims follow - they just ignore them and laugh at the more bigoted fools in their membership.
Not the point. The EDL, as did the dogs in the street, knew that amassing in a asian centre like urban Birmingham would provoke a reaction from the usual suspects.
To use a Northern Irish analogy its akin to the Orange Order marching through South Armagh where there are IRA signs saying 'sniper at work'.

er, not to derail this constructive discussion but the rally they attempted to bomb was in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, over 100 miles from Birmingham. Carry on... ![]()

My bad, I was reading the origin of the conspirators.
West Yorkshire is probably worse. It has possibly the largest asian community in England outside any urban centre.
Let the EDL take their rabble down to the home counties where they can speak to their market. They are s**t stirring and know fine well.

The EDL do what all street based far right groups do, i.e. march where they are most likely to start a ruck. I was being facetious btw I know West Yorkshire has a high Asian population, I live there (although it is actually made up of urban centres - its basically the Leeds-Bradford conurbation, population 2 million). The problem is that these towns are divided, something you should be familiar with - the Northern mill towns in particular are not accurately described as 'multicultural'. What they are is two communities glaring suspiciously at each other, going to different schools, socialising separately, having different values, speaking separate languages, having a different source of identity. It erupts periodically and parts of my home city have burned several times in my lifetime. A little more like Northern Ireland than the type of happyland those who don't live it think post-immigration communities are, where we all enjoy each other's enrichment and sing kumbaya. And that's the type of environment that the EDL want to exploit. They aren't proper fascists. Just bigoted football hooligans looking for other hotheads to pick a fight with.

This.
There are hardline elements of both sides, and neither side is completely to blame. To be quite honest, much of the problems are the fault of the Government constantly interfering, dividing people up, treating people differently and pandering to ethnic separatist sentiments and bigotry by making each side suspicious of the other and thinking that they are both being discriminated against.
It's more like a milder version of Northern Ireland, to be quite honest. Sectarianism and extremism is a problem on both sides.
