'Up to one in 10' English Democrat members were in BNP

Up to one in 10 members of the English Democrats have converted from the British National Party, their leader has told the BBC.

Robin Tilbrook said it was "perfectly fair" for people to "change their minds" and join a "moderate, sensible English nationalist party".

He said between 200 and 300 of the English Democrats' members were ex-BNP, most having joined a year or so ago.

They seem like a very unpleasant bunch, given what I've read about them over the years.

Now that the BNP has imploded, it makes sense that they would want a separate home. Why they would want to join a discredited and failing micro-party like the EDP is anyone's guess.

I knew that EDP was crawling with ex-BNP but not quite to this extent!

I'm a bit surprised at that post, coming from a UKIP supporter. I thought you were against judging a party based on the conduct of a few of it's members?

If most joined a year ago, though, then it could be a case of entryism; the BNP members could be attempting to corrupt the EDP to their aims. Or they [the members] might have changed their politics. There's also the possibility that they weren't in agreement with the BNP anyway, which isn't that rare to find in a party.

Anyway, 1 in 10 isn't that much. If they kicked everyone out based on their past, they'd scarcely decimate the party, from the sound of things.

I'm not judging the EDP based on what a few idiot members might or might not have said. I'm basing it on the actions of the party leader, and the vile actions of other prominent officials within the party (neither of whom are ex-BNP to my knowledge).

From what I gather, the BNP has pretty much totally imploded under Griffin's, erm, leadership. So there are a lot of disgruntled ex-BNP folk looking for other parties to join. They're banned from joining UKIP, so probably the EDP was the next best thing. Why they didn't try Britain First or Liberty GB escapes me. Perhaps the anti-English nationalist ones did.

You DO realize that the kicking 1 in 10 members out of the party would just about be the exact definition of the word "decimate", right?

The only way that could be any more literally decimating them is if they killed them instead of just kicked them out.

How can you criticize the likes of the BNP Tequila when 90% of your posts are trying to get the rest of us to join you in your hatred of Muslims?

I do know what the word decimate means. I was talking about the "up to" part.

It was a joke, Mr. Moreu.
