Even the founder of AA was, apparently, positive about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_W.#Al ... iritualism - not that that makes him an authority or anything, as he seemed to have been a nutcase too. But, still... heck, if the ingestion of LSD was one of the twelve steps everyone would be cured of alcoholism!

Its ironic that americans love an anti-drug organization(the drug being alchohol), but also hate a certain drug (LSD)?

How is that "ironic"?

Is it because the drug in question is thought by a minority to be a cure for addiction to the other drug in question?

Americans dont like pain, but are still afraid of certain painkilling meds like heroin.

Not all Americans love AA. I don't like it at all. While it obviously works for some people I really dislike the way they tell you that you have a character defect, and that if you aren't in AA and do the steps that even if you quit drinking you aren't sober. I know a guy that it really helped, and I'm very glad he's sober and healthy but he turned into a huge self righteous ass from it. He's been in it for about 15 years and he still puts down friends who drink normally and he always talks about everything being an addiction. He goes overboard. I don't judge it just based on him though, and I'm sure there are lots of people it didn't do that to. A lot of what they say is not logical at all. Like when they say you have no power over alcohol. Of course you do, it's an inanimate object, what you may not have power over is your craving for it or your actions after drinking a lot of it.

Courts DO often send heroin addicts into methadone treatment clinics.

Alcohol and tobacco use are America's preferred sins.
