It always amazes me how far reality is from public perception. Carter sent helicopters to rescue the hostages. Reagan sent arms to Iran (arms for hostages). Reagan is remembered as a macho cowboy and Carter a wimp!

We have our own oil. It's just a matter of saying to hell with the rest of the world and using our own and selling the surplus.

Why is it that people, particularly those of a right-leaning economic persuasion, hate Jimmy Carter so much? He deregulated the airlines, was opposed by Ted Kennedy for being a conservative Democrat, and the whole stagflation thing was an exogenous shock -almost everyone in the West was suffering from it.
Carter couldn't point a gun to OPEC's head (& if he tried there'd be a lot more confusion & price f*ckups before things got better).
Carter did that mission as a last-second attempt to save his presidency. He let Iran flaunt them in the public eye for way too long. It was an act of war and should have been treated as such. The worst we would have lost is a handful of civilians, but the world would know not to mess with us. Carter's actions only showed how weak we are. Russia deals with its enemies with an iron fist and does not have anywhere near the problems that the US has.
Carter was an otherwise "good man" but he lacked the backbone to be a leader. Iran showed how unfit he was to lead a nation against a defiant enemy.
Most Americans don't have that sort of perspective - the prevailing thought is usually that the economy is the President's fault, and if people are losing jobs or struggling to afford what they could at the beginning of the President's term then they should vote the President out of office. That's not particularly ideological. And even if Carter was ceding to the demands of the economic right, Reagan was even more promising a candidate for them on face value.
Also, the Iran hostage crisis. And on a somewhat related note, the 1979 energy crisis resulting from the Iranian Revolution.

Both Carter and Obama are losers Eventually we will see that Obama was a more lossy loser.

Many right-wing commentators and politicians loved to make Carter comparisons prior to the 2012 election, especially when it comes to the aftermath of the Arab spring and especially the attack in Benghazi, though in the long run I doubt either of these will come as significant blemishes to Obama's place in history. More significant would be the drone strikes, indefinite detention facilities, and the ongoing surveillance initiatives, which would garner more comparisons to Johnson or Nixon, but these have not been as widely-discussed on the likes of cable news networks (until now?) because spying or engaging in aggression in the name of "national security" is broadly supported by both parties.
I think the real test will be what happens when Obama is out of office.
Carter, for better or worse, spends his time with humanitarian affairs and otherwise stays out of the limelight.
I am confident Obama will be making high-dollar appearances for all his loyal following starting with the first day he leaves office.
Carter at least appears to genuinely care about others where Obama has to have it all about himself.

It's not as clean as solar. And drilling is nasty.I drove thru Smart oilfield near Stephens Ark and it was nasty, miles and miles of dead trees.Something about salt water. It Looked like an oily moonscape. And natural gas drilling causes earthquakes and explosive drinking water.
Why not the sun?Lennox now has a solar powered AC,I'd buy it in a heartbeat. How fun that the sun that's baking me outside at 90 degrees will cool my home for free. And the power co buys the surplus.

Obama got a second term, which eluded Carter, killed our greatest enemy, and is overseeing the recovery of our economy. On top of that, civil rights are expanding for gay Americans and undocumented immigrants under Obama's influence, and we will see greater health coverage for Americans. I don't see the connection between Obama's and Carter's administrations, outside of right wing propaganda.

I agree. If people had listened to Carter, we would be many times better today. There might not even be so much fighting in the Middle East and gas prices so high.
That would definitely be the AC I'd buy. That would probably cut the electric bill during the summers in half.

Here's the REAL reason ruveyn's prediction will be falsified.
Obama's presidency included a recovery, however anemic. A large part of this was the luck of the business cycle, as because there's no exogenous input shocks like rising oil (or, rather, very little - market demand for commodities is rising because of the Indo-Chinese Middle Class, causing some inflation) conventional fiscal stimulus is more than enough to ease the pain and create jobs. A little more stimulus would've done a world of good as well.
