Verdict just in by the judge, Colonel Denise Lind (Manning requested a trial by judge rather than a jury).

Bradley Manning is found:

- GUILTY of violation of the Espionage Act (on five charges)
- NOT GUILTY of aiding the enemy

Manning was also found guilty of five charges of theft, a computer fraud charge, and other military infractions.

He is expected to be sentenced tomorrow.

EDIT: The sentence phase has just begun today. Clearly, the OP is a poopy head.

He'll likely still get at least 10 years in prison I would think

Could get over 100 years.

Manning is a fool. A private can't release almost one million classified documents and expect to walk away. It's just not going to happen.

Thank goodness sense has prevailed with the "aiding the enemy" charge.

I imagine the remaining charges are justified. Hopefully the sentence will be fair and reflect the mitigating circumstances.

Could but wont. Maybe between 10 and 20 years.

The judge moved the goalposts at the last second on five of the charges and ruled guilty on each of them... that is the worst. This is one of the worst judges ever. There should not have been a trial at all, under the military code the pre-trial delay was five times longer than the permitted length.

Five is for stealing databases worth over $1000 and then they realised that the databases were not stolen and therefore lost, the records were simply copied... which is worth nothing in dollar terms. So the judge changed the rules to say it was "information" and not "databases" and did this two days before the verdict after the defence argued on the basis that these were databases said to be stolen, And copies of records are not worth over $1000. This is a farce.

If Bradley Manning gets life without parole, then the farce is over.

He abused his freedoms, now he deserves to lose them.

To LWOPP Bradley Manning amplifies the farce. LWOPP in a trial that should not have happened, a trial rigged from the start, with interference from the commander of the armed forces and secretary of defence... the whole world knows it's a kangaroo court. In fact, I wonder if this "aiding the enemy" business was also choreographed to make people think it was not, and also to get people used to more restrictive measures veering into undisguised totalitarianism.

I'd like to think that there will be a curse of Bradley Manning should they go through with a Draconian sentence, and that everyone responsible drops dead before their time... and no one will ever know what caused it. If that was to happen perhaps one might think that the world really is just!

X13, does this look familiar?

Image

It should ... it's Mount Rushmore, from the Canadian side ...

Bradley Manning is America's concern. Why don't you bag on your own country?

Duffy, a Conservative senator representing Prince Edward Island, was secretly given a $90,172 cheque by Nigel Wright, Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s then chief of staff, to cover questionable housing costs.

Harb, an Ontario Liberal senator, is also being investigated by the RCMP over alleged breach of trust. He owns a home 123 kilometres outside Ottawa so qualifies for $22,000 in annual living expenses. The Mounties charge the house is uninhabitable.

Montreal's new mayor, who pledged to stamp out corruption when he took office last November, was arrested and charged with fraud on Monday in another blow to the reputation of Canada's biggest cities.

Michael Applebaum, whose predecessor resigned under pressure, faces 14 charges linked to two real estate deals, police said during a morning news conference.

Maybe he'll get less than 136 years but there is no time off for good behavior in the military. What he gets, he serves.

Ah, so you can't stand the embarrassment of having your government persecute a hero... Bradley Manning is one of the greatest people on Earth... besides, you Americans love telling other countries what to do.

The Manning persecution has done more for the cause of Anti-Americanism world-wide than you can imagine.

Manning did a good deed. It is well known that no good deed will go unpunished.

When you are granted a security clearance you are briefed and must sign binding agreements that you will not disclose any classified information you are entrusted with.
That information will be identified so there will be no mistaking it. If you violate that trust then expect to suffer the consequences. Your personal opinion of the information you are entrusted with matters not in the least.
Manning did it to himself.
