Baptist leaders say a sign displayed on many of its churches, reading "Jesus loves Osama", is not meant to cause offence.

A number of churches in New South Wales have displayed the sign that also quotes the Bible saying "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you".

NSW Baptist Union spokesman Alan Soden says while he can understand people may be offended, the sign reflects Christian teachings.

"[Jesus] said we should love our enemies as controversial as that may be," he said.

"The bottom line to me is we're all sinners.

"He loves us all, no matter who we are or what we may've done."

That's funny, I'm not even a Christian but if I saw a sign that said "Jesus loves Osama," the first thing I'd think is "right, because Jesus is supposed to love everyone." The so-called Christians who don't get it need to stop just thumbing through their Bibles, and actually sit down and read them.

On the other hand, it seems like that church is just using shock tactics to get people to look twice at their oft-ignored faith. Well, whatever keeps money in their plate.

I would like to think even Jesus has a limit...

I think there's more to it then shock value. This isnt a belief that is strictly "christian" or Jesus. Buddhism preaches the same

messengers of God do not love the wrongdoers.

I think its a conundrum. I'm sure if Osama is alive, he wants to be hated by Christians. Telling him Jesus loves him is also telling him, do your worst, our God still loves you.

Personally, I love Osama so much I would like get him to his god as fast as possible.
