People who deliberately choose poverty, either so they can pay their dues for rewards later, or as a conscious big middle finger to capitalism and materialism. I'm thinking of joining them.

Google voluntary simplicity. People have been doing it for a long time.

George Orwell did this as research for his book 'down and out in paris and london' because he came from a family of means and therefore found it difficult to empathise.

His experiences woke him up to the folly of capitalism and made him a socialist.

There's a HUGE difference between voluntary simplicity and being impoverished.

Definitely.
A major point that many people do not see.

On top of that, I've noticed the people choosing to live without material blessings often have money they can always fall back on. The real poor have no such luxury.

^^^ Yes, people who live simply are not involuntarily deprived of adequate housing, nutrition, medical care, etc.

the TPers I know would describe the voluntary simplicity folk as "slackers" or "un-American."

Then again, the TP (toilet paper or tea party - both are ass wipes) are a bunch of small minded bigots who can't comprehend living life beyond their own limited scope.
Doubtlessly my wife and I would be called Un-American slackers by the ass wipes for our unconventional lives of genteel poverty.

^ Something you might like to consider: (1) these are people you're talking about here - you know, just like you with friends, lovers and families - and (2) substitute the name of some other minority group for the way you're using TP'ers and see how it reads.

Even though this is PPR you're still expected to attack the opinion, belief or philosophy - not the person, and there are likely to be many who hold some or all of these beliefs reading WP so it's unlikely you're not attacking someone reading this stuff.
So... knock it off, Ok, and get back to discussing the opinion, belief or philosophy instead.

I will endeavor to keep my TP opinions to myself - - even though I know I'm right.
