I was walking down the hall of my work, I saw a white woman coming in the opposite direction. I took notice of her hairline, because I have recently been thinking about my own hairline, and I was noticing how her hairline seemed to make her a fivehead like I was. I also paid attention to her hairstyle. There was a black man just to the left of her (from her perspective) and just behind her, and I temporarily glanced at him as I noticed him before looking back at the white woman's forehead. But then I noticed a distinct look of disappointment in the black man's face. I thought, Uh oh! He thought I was disapproving of their being an interracial couple! I knew already that if I were questioned, I would have nothing to say but to apologize for my carelessness in causing them to think I disapproved of them for being an interracial couple! No other explanation would be trusted.
Curse this system of privilege and oppression and let it come crashing down!
