zer0netgain,

It's more that the left is bullying the bullies, rather than joining the right in bullying marginalized groups.

It's like this from M64:

For all the "evil" things coming from the "right," the "left" has done more, and often much worse, with FAR LESS outcry over it.

I call it the "bully factor." If you study the methodology of bullies, they learn the system, and THEY WORK THE SYSTEM. They will surround themselves with "friends" who will always back up their side of events. They beat you up in the school yard, and when you run to a teacher for help, they ALL say that YOU started it.

The "left" is brilliant at manipulating the press to make the "right" look bad at every opportunity...even when an objective evaluation of the facts shows that the "left" is in the wrong or just plain lying. Guess who the population at large tends to believe?

Both do dirty tricks, but even commentators who are considered on the "right" lament that their side is hopeless in working public relations as well as the "left" does. They could have the "left" with their pants down and in a puddle of their own urine and they don't strike to show it off to the world, but the "left" never hesitates to do the same to the "right" when the roles are reversed.

Tell a lie loud enough and often enough and eventually it becomes accepted as the truth. The "left" is much better at this than the "right."

Since humans are stupid as a group, the strategy works.

You had me until that last line, because I don't think people are inherently stupid. Whats more likely is that most are vastly uninformed. All they know about politicians comes from the opponents' accusations, and all they know about major issues is what the mass media tells them. Ben Shapiro did a great lecture last year at the Young America Foundation, explaining how to deal with the "liberal left"...

Talking about the "bullying factor," I seem to recall Bill O'Reilly having one of his reporters regularly ambushing liberals with hostile, in your face questions. The "Christian" 700 Club has done that sort of thing in the past, as well, with so called sinners. I don't recall liberals pulling this sort of stunt.

Come on, now. Everyone knows that disagreeing with a conservative constitutes "attacking" them. ;)

Ummm.....I think you've got that backwards.
Nothing can screech with the shrillness of a liberal with their "beliefs" or motives in question.

You don't think conservatives ever screech?

Never with the frequency and glass shattering shrillness of the left.
Anyone not in lockstep with their rigid beliefs has names like BULLY! or RACIST! or HOMOPHOBE! or FASCIST! screeched at them.

Go back and read my first post in this thread. Just because a person isn't screeching and calling you names does not mean what they are doing is not deeply offensive, whether it's calmly and smugly assuming they have the right to tell you what to do about a pregnancy, whether you should be able to marry the person you love, or whether you deserve the taxpayers' assistance based on their judgment of the way you live.

You don't have to screech to be arrogant.

When you get away from the centre, both left and right are remarkably similar to each other. The left are definitely more hateful though, from what I've seen at least, in my 38 years.

Left wingers believe they're the ones standing against prejudice, but more often than not, the loudest ones simply want one set of prejudices replaced with their own prejudices which are just as vitriolic and hateful as anything right wingers come out with.

The reaction to Margaret Thatcher's death from the left was astonishing. The outpouring of sheer venomous hatred, not just at the individual but towards white middle/upper class England in general, was exactly the kind of thing that these people would normally accuse right wingers of.

I never liked Thatcher, and I'm not exactly a fan of the middle/upper class English, but the disgusting behaviour that I witnessed then from the left wing was just shocking, arguably racist, and everything I used to believe that being on the left was supposed to be against.

The worst thing was that these people couldn't even see that their behaviour was indeed prejudiced. They truly believed that such behaviour and sentiment automatically becomes acceptable when they decide to indulge in it.

As opposed to SOCIALIST!, COMMUNIST!, ANTI-AMERICAN!, WELFARE ADDICTED LOSER!, or IMMORAL SATANIST!? And one I heard for the first time yesterday: RACE BAITER!

Neither conservative nor liberal extremist can really pretend to have the moral high ground on hatred. From my observations, I would say that a larger percentage of liberals regularly spew out hate filled crap (more often than not directed at Republicans and Libertarians), but the most disturbing and extreme examples are almost exclusively from the staunch conservative camp (usually directed at those deemed to be Hell-bound sinners).

And just for the record bully, racist, and fascist are names I have heard frequently from both sides to describe each other.

For what it's worth, although I am not British, I do consider myself a liberal and I was also appalled by the demonstrations mounted after Lady Thatcher's death. I do have a couple of British friends who are definitely not Tories :D and they were as astounded as you over the matter.

Actually, there's a critical difference that makes this a false analogy: Transgender people are a highly marginalized, persecuted group, while those who favor drilling for oil are among the most privileged and well-off.

Tell that to all the oil rig workers, oil refinery workers, and the entire auto industry. I'd think almost every grease monkey, including half my family of mechanically inclined, autosavy men and women, would disagree. 98% of the people who work in the oil industry are underpayed, overworked, and single. If transgender people are so well defended by liberals, why is that 98% almost never talked about in the eco-vs-oil rig debates?

A bully is just as unique as your so called marginalized groups.
Are bullies just ret*d monsters? No. Just like LGTB folks aren't.
Being a bully to bullies is just as worse.

I beg your pardon if that was the impression I gave. I merely felt that what I said in my first post might be a fitting response to your allegation that liberals are worse screechers than conservatives.
