Earth is getting warmer?

Right now it's 12 degrees Fahrenheit outside. So why would I believe the weather will be warmer just because the earth is? Someone explain how this works again. Scientists go on and on about the greenhouse effect then tell me why, in some places, it still gets this cold in winter? Shouldn't it be warmer than this with the greenhouse effect? It does't get this cold on Venus.

Earth is no windstill glashouse. Climates and temperatures are based on a big mix of factores, from sea-streams, transporting water of different temperatures from one place to another to high above air jet streams, changing their positions according to the weater as well as low air, low air streams.

If it may be the change of climate, the CO2, or whatever, fact is that by statistic an global high above airjetstream, that did according to statistic circle more north around the pole, has started to wander more south now in winter, bringing with it cold air. That does not indicate a global cooling, because the more south jetstream, having warmer air, has not vanished, but is instead now more south, causing there higher temperatures then usual.

In the end, as engineer in environmental development, I do not have enough knowledge to tell you if it will be warmer or colder in 50 years, I simply can tell you that its f*****g stupid to mess something up, as long as you dont know what consequences it will cause in the end.

And yes, I have not seen the sun for 7 days, so I am depressed too, and acutally I´d like to have snow, or rain, but having before a cold period from russia, followed by an mild-frost airstream with rain simply sucks, because snow is ok, rain is ok, no fluid at all is ok, but half an inch of pure ice on everything for three days simply sucks. -.-

I am tired of this winter. So cold and yucky. I can't help but wish for some greenhouse effect right now. Maybe just a little! This is just too cold and the windchill is outrageous!

I don't complain until it stays below freezing a few days that's when it gets to me. I hate anything below 32 or above 92. That's my comfort zone. And I really hate below freezing and high winds.

Don't worry, once the glaciers and such are finished melting and cooling the oceans temporarily none of that will be a problem anymore.

Don't forget the miserable hot temps a couple of summers ago.Never in my life have I felt a hot wind.It was 111 and the wind felt hotter than that.Usually a breeze feels good in August,this felt like a wind out of DeathValley.It killed huge trees,we had wildfires and everyone in the state was told to have a bug out bag in case of wildfires.I smelled smoke one day,called the sheriffs dept,there was a wildfire in the next county.
It killed a Western red cedar I had planted,the tree was a funny color that morning,and after the wind from hell,the foliage turned a brownish orange.
A tornado hit my street as a kid,I'll take the snow over one of those.

Snow is fine I just don't like 15 degrees.

Cedars are a hazard where I live. I like them especially ones that are really tall and old. They grow like weeds and when it gets hot and dry, they explode like bombs only without the noise. They spontaneously combust.

They don't fare too well with ice either.When the bad ice storm hit the trees were popping and it sounded like rifle shots.Its a creepy sound when you hear it all night long.Some places looked like they had been logged so many trees were down.
Makes me think of Robert Fost's poem Fire and Ice.

^^Yeah,people plant them as yard trees.They have naturalized in Missouri,I think they may be invasive there.Any softwood type tree like gum,ash,elm and box elder just decimated here when we get bad ice.The native pines did better than the oaks strangely.
It did used to be colder here,the old timers talk about the river freezing,I've never seen that happen.In the thirties the previous owners here had a sled trail cut through the woods to the little store nearby(wish that little store was still there).They said if you butchered a hog in the winter it would stay cold enough to hang and freeze the meat.Now we get really warm spells in the winter,you'd have rotten meat.
