So, what do you guys think?

Offensive or awesome?

Quote:
Coca-Cola touched off a controversy during the Super Bowl last Sunday when it aired an ad featuring the song "America the Beautiful" sung in eight different languages. The ad won praise from many Americans, while angering some others, who couldn't wrap their heads around the song being sung in any language other than English.

A new HuffPost/YouGov poll finds that only one-fifth of Americans were offended by the ad, but that far more want to see English made the official language of the United States.

According to the poll, 21 percent of Americans thought the ad was offensive, while 59 percent said it was not.

I can't decide what I like more: The people who think this is our national anthem, or the fact that it was originally written by a lesbian woman.

You can laugh all you want but immigrants should adopt the culture and language of the country they move to, assimilation and integration should be prioritized not segregation.

The hamburger stand a few blocks from my house now has a sign that says "Taqueria" out front. They still serve awesome cheeseburgers, but they serve great tacos too.

The best doughnuts in town come from a place called Panaderia Ayala...

Is that the work of the mellting pot, or multiculturalism?

Sometimes I think it's both.Like the Cajun culture,No doubt they are American but they have retained an individuality. And some speak French as a second language, not sure how close it is to the language spoken in France.
I think having a national langue is a good idea, highway signs,etc...But having a second language is nice, and all those different foods to eat.
I'd hate to think of America as one big strip mall where everybody and everything is identical.

Your basic problem is that you are seeking Goodness and Justice. You are doomed to disappointment.

The problem is not the U.S.A. or any other nation. It is human nature. Accept homo sapien for what he is. Do not wish for that which can never be. We are about 6 evolutionary jumps -as a species- away from whatever it is you are looking for.

I think that I am far more annoyed that the Church of Scientology was able to buy commercial airtime during the Super Bowl.

Frankly, I am surprised that it is the Coke commercial that is getting all of the outrage.

I would have liked it just fine if it had been sung entirely in English.
