Reading this, and watching the video, I am so f*cking ANGRY RIGHT NOW!! !! ! Of all the stupid, ignorant fundies! I seriously hope the girl's family realize that that Bapticostal fundie religion has nothing to offer anyone with a functional soul.

Having short hair and wearing T-shirts is not equal to embracing an opposite-sex identity. There's a very real difference between "tomboys" and women who believe the gender they were born with is wrong. School workers that balk over small stuff like this should be ashamed of themselves.

I agree, they should be ashamed of themselves. Especially for causing trauma to that little girl.

Wow, she really does look (and sound) like a boy. But yeah, last time I checked the Bible doesn't have dress codes for eight year olds

Yep and we are going to get the normal list of christian supporters saying how wonderful and caring the religion is, and how at odds attitudes like this are compared with the "real faith" BS this is the real faith at work, subjugation, control and judgement.

The grandparents should be ashamed of themselves for sending her to a school like that in the first place, any guardian who willfully has their charge schooled in the bronze age should be severely reprimanded. Teaching kids that BS it child abuse.

Prove to me that applies to the local church I attend. Because I can tell you right now, it does not. And for the record, I was the first one to scold the Bapticostals for their fundie bullsh*t.

Like I said here come the apology brigade  "your" church does not equate to the church, the faith, or more importantly the widespread effect Christianity is having on the US. If the Fundies are so marginal why then do they wield so much influence?

You know what I find funny. Every Christian I know says Islam is a evil religion. So when I say no it's not. Its just a fringe minority giving it a bad name. They reply no, its a evil religion and they are basically bad people.

So if Christians can judge a whole religion by the fringe minority, then its only fair I also judge Christianity by its fringe minority. Its only fair to apply the same standards to both.

The financial incentive to send a child to the school if you can stand what the school teaches is enormous. Liberty University, founded by Jerry Falwell (not Christian by the way; neither is Martin Luther, Pat Robertson, any Pope, or anyone who lived before the 20th Century really), is also in the area of the school. "Talented" students get 75% off tuition after graduation from Timberlake, which at full value is slightly less than the median income in Lynchburg. I can imagine other diploma mills having pipelines to other universities like this.

Because in the Bible Belt, they're not so marginal. In the rest of the country, they are.

Sorry, but all that stuff really is typical only about some US weirdos. Here in europe there are as well about 50% christians, but neither do we have any troubles with that "creationism in schools" stuff, or "OMG, we must protect the scouts-organisation from that horrific non-fundie people." ^^ or whatever hardcore fundie nonsense. I mean the pope and vatican church has officially declared, that they dont think its their oppinion to involve into scientific research.

So yes, when that typical US fundie hardliners, manage to be more fundie then the pope, then they definitly dont match for representing "the typcial christian". ^^

The difference between Europe and the US is that in the US people have left the mainline protestant churches, and joined the fundie/evangelical/charismatic churches.

"While in 1970 the mainline churches claimed most Protestants and more than 30 percent of the population as members,[14] today they are a minority among American Protestants, claiming approximately 15 percent of American adults among their adherents in 2009."
