I don't think it is the business of the government to meddle with this. If people want a porn filter, they can install it themselves. And "concerned parents" is usually a euphemism for meddling idiots who want to take other people's rights away "for the sake of the children".

I think so.
Protection against pornography "for the good of the children" is a prelude to full censorship of the Internet. I consider myself as a believing person, I believe that children should be protected from pornography, because porn destroys the psyche, and thus as adults we should protect children from pornography, but on the other hand, I myself was a teenager in past, and then I'd surely did not want a grumpy adulst blocked me access to my favorite pastime :D

It can only lead to bad things. It's a slippery slope to full censorship.

That said, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be up now in the UK. Haven't noticed a damn thing. My friends did complain about a few torrent sites going down though, but that's not all that unusual.

I think if he tries it, it will be the best thing anyone has ever done for net freedom, because within 18 hours, someone will have figured out a work around. Someone will demonstrate that government cannot stick this genie back in the bottle.

Go on, David. Fill yer boots.

Thus, any attempt to control content on the internet is pointless and a waste of public money?

Association "Twoja Sprawa" is catholic association of parents.

They are full of admiration for Prime Minister Cameron, and they want our Prime Minister Donald Tusk, has introduced the same solution that the government of Prime Minister Cameron introduced in the UK.

They've started to sending mails to Prime Minister Tusk and members of your Polish Parliament.

They started to collect signatures for a petition to Parliament. They need to collect 100 thousand signatures to force parliament to take the case.

I signed the previous petition on the advertising ban of pornographic websites in the mass media.

I think I will not sign this petition.
Here in Poland we have a proverb, "Apetyt rośnie w miarę jedzenia" - "The appetite grows with eating" :D

Is really stupid, and really misleading. I expect it will be unworkable, and if even get implemented/enforced which I doubt, I will be reversed, or the ISPs just won't push it to the forefront.

It sends the message it is not the responsibility of the parent to protect their children online.

Some people don't really understand there is no full-proof way of automating parental control. There is no substitute for supervision. If you are not computer literate and you have kids, you have buck up and learn.

BTW I've never been asked to opt in or out. It is not the job of the government to nanny people.

Somehow I doubt the ISPs will want to make to much of the things of it, they would most likely phrase the question in a non-inquisitorial way, they don't want to loose custom.

It doesn't work. Software filters are not sophisticated enough to spot all online pornography.

I think he was right to raise the issue but I think he is attacking it the wrong way. Parents are the one's who need to decide if they want their children trawling the internet, and if they do they have to be award that they may come across pornographic images.

I think most adults living today remember a time when they were kids and out somewhere in the park or wherever and someone found a discarded porn mag. I remember we found one in our school yard! LOL

I doubt it does harm anyway but parents should be aware that if they allow internet access to the children then they should sit with them, or have them use it in their presence.

David Cameron hasn't got a clue how the internet works if he things the likes of google can stop internet porn.

From what I've read the porn filter is also blocking access to sites that provide education and information on sexual matters to young people. It is also blocking support sites associated with sexuality. While I'm no fan of hardcore porn, I dislike the idea of censorship in principle; as others have said it is a slippery slope to blocking other "undesirable" content and sooner or later that content may be political dissent.
