7 Sabbaths Riddle

I remember reading a riddle book from my middle school's library, and one of the riddles I saw went something like this: seven employees shared the same boss, but only six employees came to work each day. According to the answer section, each of the employees believed in a different religion, so they held their sabbaths on different days of the week. I know that Christians sanctify Sunday and that Jews abstain from work on Saturday, but which religions consider one of the weekdays a Sabbath?

Friday is the holy day in Islam.

Thats three down, and four to go, to answer the riddle.

Sunday for most Christians, Saturday for Jews ( and for Seventh Day Adventists), and Friday for Muslims. So that explains three days of missing employees.

What about the remaining four?

Jehovah's Witness dont observe ANY holidays. But I cant find any info on their attitude about observing the Sabbath- in my casual web surfing just now. But they and the Mormons might have some wierd off day as the Sabbath.

Days off usually aren't that flexible, so it's a red herring.They all work seven day weeks, and the reason only six people came into work each day is because the boss lives at his place of work, and he also counts as an employee since he pays himself a wage.

Another way to solve this is that they all work at a church, so technically Jesus is an employee of God, as are the rest of them. Jesus can act like a wild card who can be counted either as coming into work or not on any given day. Use this to account for the day or days you can't find a religion for. If its more than one day, then assume some employee('s) are working a seven day week (i.e JW's) so that the numbers add up.

Tiu (Twia) is the English/Germanic god of war and the sky. He is identified with the Norse god Tyr.

And there is "Freitag's Day", and Sunday was originally exactly that- the sun god's day. Dont know about Saturday.

The word "Hell" comes from the name of an Anglosaxon goddess named "Helle".

Saturn's Day is holy to the Jews because they had once worshiped the star Saturn as Chuin. Saturn's symbol is a square or cube, or if you turn the cube so you look through a vertex, it creates the outline of a hexagon. A cube has 6 sides, 8 vertices, and 12 edges which equals 26, the same numerical value of Yahweh/Y(10)+H(5)+W(6)+H(5). (Of interest is the fact that on Saturn's North pole is a massive storm with a hexagon-shaped eye wall.) The hexagon is of course found on the flag of Israel today. Because things traditionally move from darkness to light, the previous day ends at sundown when the current day begins, so Friday night is usually when Jews begin religious observations and go to Temple, and Saturday is the Sabbath.

You beat me to the punch - usually, I'm the one explaining Germanic anitquities.
But you know, in Germany since converting to Christianity in late antiquity/dark ages, the middle day of the week has been called Mitwoch (midweek), presumably because Wodan was considered such a major challenger to Christ, and overall just a terrible, blood thirsty deity.

The English weekdays are named after Germanic gods that the Germanic tribes considered to be equivalent to the Roman gods of the same weekday. Since Valhalla didnt have a god they considered equivalent to Saturn they simply used that Roman god's name for "Saturn's Day".

You think too much. Judaism predates Greco-Roman culture by centuries. Muslims use a similar notation for days of the week as Jews do (that is, Day One, Second Day, Third Day...Sixth Day, Shabbat (Seventh Day)).
