I said state, no Puerto Rico or D.C. There are fifty states, but which one is doing the worst? I'm talking about in general. I'm sure some have horrible education, but a great market for business and vice versa. Whether it be public health care, happiness, education, etc. What is your opinion? Have any states rapidly declined in a short era?

Mississippi definitely. I would say. 22% of the population live in poverty.

The state's percentage of African Americans is 33%. Most of them are only barely able to remain above the poverty line. And a staggering 40% of them live in poverty. Which is scary as hell.

One can statistically determine which state is the "worst."

But I believe that one cannot begin to experience the essence of that state, until he/she actually lives in it.

Mississippi might have the lowest amount of "this," and the greatest amount of "that." It does not mean that Mississippi will be the "worst" state to someone who is able to broad his/her horizons. There are many nice things about Mississippi which statistics don't measure.

Obviously, something needs to be done to ameliorate the "statistics" in Mississippi.

But I don't believe I would ever be able to really determine what is the "worst" of anything.

I have, through my experience, become skeptical of relying on statistical measures for anything--even though I really, really love to read many sorts of statistics.

We usually come in right above Mississippi in statistics.Low paying jobs, bad roads etc..I've visited other states and still I wouldn't live anywhere else but Arkansas.

Mississippi's main problem is the lack of viable industry, and whatever jobs one *can* find usually won't pay very well, and the vast majority of them are in the tourism industry in the Gulfport-Biloxi area, the rest of the state be damned.

Jackson is, in my opinion, the most depressing city I have ever set foot in. And their governor, Phil Bryant, makes Sam Brownback look like Jerry Friggin Brown. He looks like a villain in a B-rated horror movie.

The Mississippi Delta region was where we got a good amount of the music which we listen to today.

Alas, this beautiful music was borne of sorrowful things.

You can't play the blues in an air conditioned room.

That's why I can never create a credible blues: I just like air-conditioning too much.

I really lament this spoiled-rotten aspect of myself.

What got me into the Blues was a movie called "Sounder."

All I know about Bryant is that he is really conservative. What do you know about him?
