Why do we care if North Korea has nukes?

After all they could wipe out American civilian populations by walking up to you and me, and- garroting each one of us one-by-one with our own neckties.

So in addition to having sanctions against North Korea we should also forbid American citizens from wearing neckties!

Well it is much easier to kill someone with a gun than a knife. At least if you saw someone coming at you with a knife you could run away. You can't run away from a bullet.

Knifes of the domestic variety at least, have multiple utilities.

Guns have only one. For some reason almost every developed country on Earth finds a way around that utility. Also i'm fairly certain that its not just liberals who want guns banned in America any more than all American liberals want to ban guns (which isn't all).

First of all, no intelligent liberal would advocate banning knives. Being liberal doesn't mean depriving others of their civil rights. Although some liberals would like to have stricter handgun laws, they can't outlaw them. That pesky Second Amendment allows Americans to possess firearms.
A woman in a nearby town opened her front door to a visitor who beat her to death with a hammer. Other people have been murdered by drowning, chainsaw attacks, and smothered with pillows. Banning tools, water, and pillows would be beyond silly.
I agree that liberals can be intrusive into others private lives, but conservatives do, also. Such busybodies should be resisted. Our civil liberties are in the Constitution, and no politicians have the right to take them from us.

Its amazing how conservatives in America are fast to whine about their precious "freedumbs"on guns but when it comes to intrusive legislation like the patriot act and online policing they don't give a damn.

Don't forget the collection of cell phone data by the NSA and it's secret court. However, I might point out that people put far more personal data on Facebook than the NSA could ever gather.
Our government is usually charmingly inept. Sometimes not so charming. How we got to be a superpower is simply amazing.

I don't recall ever approving of the patriot act or on-line policing.
"Freedumbs", eh? Typical of the left make light of freedom. As long as we have a hut, a water buffalo, and a few acres to plant our rice what use do we have for "freedumb"?

Knives have a vast range of legitimate domestic and business uses. Being equipped with a knife is almost essential in a wide range of construction, distribution, shipping and retail jobs.

Knives are also a lot less dangerous than guns. Decades of research have shown that the mortality rate from gunshot wounds is consistently much higher than for stab wounds.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24387925
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2911188
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9107323
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24417825
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23522451
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15839970
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11164395
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10692193

The treatment costs of gunshot wounds are also substantially higher than for stab wounds:
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/ar ... 7597000079
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8158713

Add to this that - among survivors - the prognosis and recovery from knife wounds is also much better than for gunshot wounds, as the latter cause more permanent and long-term effects.

I live in the UK and if someone is caught with a knife on them by the police, the knife is confiscated. I watched an episode of police interceptors where they stopped a car and found a knife hidden in the back. The confiscated the knife.

So here, I guess knives are banned.

Same thing could happen here eventually if we continue down this slippery slope. The anti gun extreme left here in the US knows they have a Pandoras Box here when it comes to guns. This nation is armed to the teeth and I am glad. Guns are my escape. I have owned and shot them since I was 5 yrs old. To take that away from me and other law abiding gun enthusiasts is evil and hypocritical while those that mean to do just that scream about their own freedoms and enthusiasms. Do they like driving cars? Do they like having a drink? Do they like jogging? Do they like hiking in the mountains? Do they like riding in a boat? Do they like...........? there are a bunch of activities out there that kill/harm more than guns do.

We are allowed to own guns here as well. I come from a farming background, so I had family members who owned a gun so they could shoot vermin on their land. So in some circumstances over here we can still go hunting, but you are not allowed to walk around with a hand gun in a holster. This is just normal to me. We look over the pond and we can't quiet get our heads round the US gun culture.

Most people here carry knifes at all times.mostly just pocket knives but some carry hunting knives in a sheath on the belt. Not unusual during hunting season to see people in the store with holstered guns.No one really even notices.
