The real value of America's professional athletes.

1. They hog up seats in large colleges that would be better filled by somebody with a goal of using what they are learning out in the market.

2. They create massive social inequalities within the colleges that they attend.

3. There are other ways of becoming a professional athlete other than using a college as means to do so, by simply moving up within the leagues.

4. They rob foreign Olympic athletes who are much more often amateurs of an opportunity to be proud of their flag... this is hustling, this isn't competition.

5. They are paid way too much, and they contribute nothing, and they do nothing for America.
Going to a professional game for entertainment is a two way relationship, you pay them, and the rip you off and rob America.

Not a single one of them holds any job title related to their college degree.

So its time they were given a choice.
Work as what they studied to be in college, or be forced to quit being an Athlete.
:)

A lot of what you say I agree with, but there are exceptions, I am mostly familiar with basketball. Many college basketball players are now professional coaches, and most of those who coach actually finished college. Alan Henderson from Indiana University went on to play professionally for only a few years while he finished college and is now a physician in Atlanta. I agree 100% that athletes are overpaid. Those who are given scholarships only to leave after one or two years to go pro should be required to pay back their tuition, if that isn't already a requirement, but it is as much the fault of professional sports as it is the players. I think professional sports leagues should have an entry age requirement and require college players to finish school prior to going into the pros. The professional sports are actually raping universities of young undeveloped talent.

They make colleges a lot of money and make non-revenue producing sports (which is pretty much everything besides football and men's basketball) possible. It provides opportunity to attend college for a lot these athletes that they wouldn't of had otherwise because of financial and socioeconomic reasons. The top college athletes aren't compensated near as much they bring in to the university. As for pros being overpaid, they're paid what the market says they should be.

FWIW, my dad's boss is a retired NBA player.

I don't watch any sports. I agree most are over-paid thugs and/or cry babies. However, a lot people do not work in the field that they actually studied in. Not one person in my family, including myself, work in what we studied at college.
