What is Putin's involvement in the Iraq situation?

Personally, I think he is probably dealing with everyone and trying to increase his clout in the region. While we don't see much that is obvious, I really think there is a lot going on behind the scenes. What do you thing he is up to?

Russia isn't involved anymore than supporting their allies in Syria and Iran.
