That's right, if you correctly process the data government spending is a good thing. Not that conservatives will ever admit that.

Not all conservatives are fiscal conservatives. The Republican party in the USA does not practice fiscal conservatism, so most elected conservatives in the US are OK with "overspending".

Government spending is generally not good for an economy, because usually the money is spent inefficiently (i.e., government spending is "less bang for the buck").

Corporations are not particularly efficients either.
Austerity is, i think, about removing money from the economy to repay a determined amount of debt. And the amount is determined based on flawed numbers.
Austerity may seem efficient and equitable, but it's not.

Actually, government inefficiency in spending is fantastic for the economy. It leads to large companies being able to expand to a larger size more rapidly, creating more and better jobs as well as more consumers. It leads to increased amounts of money for its citizens to spend on goods and services. Improvement to the economy is achieved by increases in the circulation of money, not reductions.

It has already been determined that food assistance is the #1 (dollar for dollar) improvement to the economy in terms of government spending, while most government cuts cause a significant cut (dollar for dollar) to the US economy. It is the total federal debt that upsets people, because they think governments should be like them, where more debt=bad. It should also be noted that the most successful large corporations (who legally count as people) usually operate on huge amounts of debt financing.

I see net improvements to the economy being based on increased productivity, not increased inefficiency. Sure, a particular individual may fare better with increased inefficiency, say a government worker getting a pension, however, I would argue that the net improvements to the economy come from increased productivity.

The government takes money from people, and then spends it less productively, and somehow you believe that's fantastic for the economy ? Call a citizen's spending X, taxes eliminate X when the citizen's money is taken, and replace it with the government's X - Y less efficient spending, and you think that X - Y less efficient spending improves the economy over the citizen's spending ?
