Last i checked almost every other country wasn't spying on its own citizens or throwing its weight around the global stage.

Fair enough on the 'throwing their weight around', there are unnecessary wars going on all the time.

But I think every country is spying on it's own citizens.

Somehow I always seem to disagree with you on the debt 8)
Investors simply trust the US gov to pay their interest (2% or whatever) and their debt, they don't have that much confidence in countries like Greece (7.8%). That's why the US gov can borrow cheaply.
