Hoodie Ban laws overstep boundaries...

We are about to get really super cold where I live, the temperatures are set to plummet that means many people will be doing what they can to keep warm. In some cases, it will include wearing hoods, hats, ski masks, or scarves.

In February, the state legislature will consider a law making it a $500 offense to leave your house wearing any garment that conceals part of your head or face due to the criminal acts of certain individuals that use these articles of clothing in the commission of crimes.

Now, I just paid over $40 for a Decemberists hoodie. I only bought it because I knew it would keep me warm when it gets cold. If someone would have told me a few months back about this ridiculous law, which hasn't passed yet but stands a chance of maybe doing so, I would have surely bought a sweat or t shirt.


I think this law absolutely oversteps boundaries and should never ever be on the books anywhere it gets freezing cold in winter.

I could even stand if they just banned ski masks but as far as hoods, hats, scarves, it is vital we be allowed to protect ourselves from the cold in winter.

That is ridiculous to ban hoodies. That's all I wear during the winter (with a shirt underneath of course). People have been wearing them for how long now? Some laws make no sense to me.

C'mon the low temp here for tomorrow will be -17. I feel like we're in for another BS winter and I'll wear what I have to.

Which state? Victoria? New South Wales? I could believe it of Queenslanders.

That's f*****g ridiculous. Here, it reached -30C, and I had to bundle up pretty good when I walked uptown. I was wearing a hoodie, a jacket, a toque, and a scarf, most of which covered my head in some manner. It's crucial to cover your head in cold weather, because that's where you lose most of your body heat.

Nah. They just ran a successful test run for the "assault weapon" and registration stuff they keep on trying on the US. Sadly, we have more city-born brainwashed people in positions of power, so it passed.

Crime is the same. Murders with firearms went down a little, but murders via other means rose (you know, the tool doesn't matter in the end), so nothing realistically changed.

Banning hoodies is just like banning guns, it helps prevent crime and makes the world a safer place.

Anyway, the state with the hoodie issue is in the US. Not sure if this is happening in Australia or Europe. I see it being less of an ordeal in places that do not experience colder winters. No one would have much of a reason for wearing a hoodie in such locations so you would target the criminals with such a law.

I live in a place that gets cold and I am tired of our lives revolving around people who commit crimes. Every years seems they try to think of more ways to punish all of us for actions of a few. They did the same thing with cold medicine years ago now they want to attack our clothing not because of anything the majority of us have done but because of the wretched actions of a few. It's time to say enough is enough.

Wow what a load of crap, what state do you live in? And I thought it was ridiculous there a couple states trying to sue my state over the marijuana legalization...but this is just a new level. Hopefully it gets over-turned due to the need to keep warm in the cold and well what's next are they going to ban sunglasses, wallet chains, clothes that create a 'dark' image ect? It really is taking it too far.

Also don't see how it would deter any crimes....if someone is wearing a ski mask or otherwise covering their face I imagine their goal is not to get caught in the act so like they really care about a 500 dollar fine if their plan is to get away that's a pretty lame excuse for such a ridiculous law.

I wear a beanie, and much of the time when its frost bite weather or close to that i wear a jacket with a hood and the hood goes over the beanie as its much more efficient for warmth or just a hoodie under a jacket....especially if I do not have a scarf, though I always try to remember a scarf so if its that cold I can pull it over my nose and mouth. Also what if someone forgets their beanie and it starts snowing for instance.

I do not think banning hoodies in areas that don't have colder winters would target criminals....they come in handy if its even just a bit chilly, and well I have worn them in warmer weather if I am just feeling kinda chilly and much of the time younger people like teens don't care about dressing appropriate for warm weather and will commonly wear them in all sorts of weather.

If the law in your state passes it will target people stuck outside for long enough to need their head/face covered to avoid frost bite.

Kinda sucky when we live in a time when you say, "you don't need a hoodie, wear a beanie" is thought of as a serious post.

(O, my American brothers and sisters; praise your 1st and 2nd Amendments, as they're the only reason why you have somewhat reasonable firearm and free speech laws. Anything outside of such is an easy target for dumb and/or controlling politicians.)

Is there any evidence that criminals become less criminal when they are forced to switch to different clothes?
Anyway, it's not that hard to just carry a sock or snow mask around in your pocket that you put on moments before robbing the bank.
