America's premier family-values, conservative, religiously Christian family who enjoys robo calling en mass in order to persuade people to vote their way, against all of what they consider to be life's perverts, has met with it's first scandal involving the eldest son, Josh Duggar, who was accused of molesting several teenagers and family members while still a teenager himself. He has apologized, expressed regret and stepped down as D.C. lobbiest for the Family Research Council.

When you hold yourself out as the 'perfect family', this is what happens when you are shown to have feet of clay...

You forgot to mention that the family did report the incident: after the statute of limitations expired and to a police officer who was a family friend (also to be noted said officer is in prison for kiddie porn). Don't worry though, it was all god's will.

The whole thing makes me sick.

It's the Quiverfull movement in fundamental Christianity modeled on:
Psalm 127:3-5

3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.They think they will be blessed by Providence if they have as many kids as they can. They are pressured by others who practice this lifestyle


So they put on this picture perfect example of a family with as many kids as the couple can produce. They make it look as good as they can to encourage other couples to do the same. They neglect to mention that many impoverished hovels throughout the world practice Quiverfull by necessity, they have no other choice, and these places are some of the most difficult ones in which to live on earth, full of wars, poverty, illiteracy, violence, crime, hunger.
In reality, if everyone lived like this, there would be so many people on the planet, the outcome would be disastrous. Parents would be constantly stressed about how to feed such a large family and the kids would suffer tremendously. Most people in the US realize this and that's why you see this movement is not very popular.

Truth is, a family with just as little as five kids is challenging enough for parents. Most people can barely manage that many!

Add to it the isolation and strict adherence to the words in the Bible and the fact the parents are too busy with pregnancies and new infants to raise the kids they already have. It would be a very stressful environment.
