Why do the intolerant religious people in society emphasize how bad they think homosexuality is, yet give no f4cks about other issues? Why is it so commonly cherry picked from the bible that homosexuality is wrong?

Discrimination, perhaps? Yes? :jester:

I don't give a s**t what you have to say if you are one of these people AND especially if you force your beliefs into law/rights. Tolerant religious people, on the other hand, I respect. It takes guts to modify your views for the better in spite of the pressure of others' around you. I'd be completely for religion if it weren't for the abusers.

I think it was mainly in response (overblown of course) to the HIV/AIDS epidemic of the 80s, and to a lesser extent, the sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Church.

Here in the UK things are very different. Talking against homosexuals is illegal. That means people who are against it simply don't talk about it. My ex-wife, and yes divorced aren't I bad, suffered incest as a child. This made for a very difficult marriage. Blame for all the problems were put on me. I was the surrogate man to take the blame for what her father and other men had done to her. She is now very happy in a civil partnership with another woman, effectively marriage. This has changed my views on homosexuality and I forgive her completely. With the best of intentions on both sides our marriage was not going to work. It was often hell for both of us. We did have two great lads.

There are some nice middle class fundamental Christians who go cheerfully through life, but afraid to think too much, or cross borders of their doctrine. The Anglicans for the most part are human. Flexibility is not seen as a good thing by the fundies. I was born thinking out of the box.

Not in my social media feeds.

The trouble is abusers come in all creeds & none. It is something about having ideals that sends some people a little crazy. Such is the human condition.

One belief will prevail over another even in a democracy. The majority (or the biggest minority) wields the power. So how do you prevent any one view ever being forced onto another against their will? You either have law and order or you don't.

In the UK we talk about the silent majority and it is the minority with the loudest mouths who seem to win.

Many Catholics in my area of Portland think that going to church is like going to a VIP club.
