I have been researching this. One example of the way these cartels launder money into the US was through expensive race horses and the local equine community loved all that money Los Zetas poured into it because when you have a lot of money to spend, it's all people want to see and they instantly love you regardless of where that money came from. The locals were in deep mourning when the FBI arrested Jose Trevino Morales and his wife in this county I live in. That was the base of their money laundering operation. Locals lamented for weeks because these people were staunch supporters of Quarter Horses, they would go to auctions, spending thousands and thousands of dollars so they quickly became very popular and beloved of the community. If anyone suspected anything, they weren't publically declaring it.

Here are a couple of links about Los Zetas:

After this occurred locally, I became a bit more familiar about what money laundering is while before I had no direct experience with it so it was pretty much a soap bubble floating far above me in the air as far as I was unconcerned. I didn't spend time contemplating money laundering activities in remote locations.

All the drug money doesn't just stop with Quarter horses, it was also stated the family was involved with corrupting the political system as well with their money, so it goes much deeper than just buying and selling horses.

====================================================================

El Chapo, the one behind the nefarious activities of the heavily drug trafficking Sinaloa Cartel, recently escaped his Mexican prison cell and he was once listed on the Fortune 500 list of Billionaires which enterprising folk the world over read. If he's a billionaire it's obvious he has money to burn and it is more than likely he has money laundering operations in place but where, who and what? He might not be into expensive race horses. Maybe he is more into films and music and of course, he's a businessman so while he watches movies about life in his biggest target market, the US, he thinks of ways to INCREASE his market, to keep biggering and biggering. More money for him. No one wants a shrinking market after all. So what does he do? He starts financing entertainment, such as films or television, while they endorse meth, cocaine, heroin, in television or whatever medium by thoroughly drenching everything with talks and scenes. They turn celebrities into big time drug addicts because, one way to get millions instantly hooked is to create a celebrity who is a drug addict. It's the easiest way to increase their markets and their bank accounts while the Mexican government tsk tsks America saying, "why you got the biggest market in the world, what can you expect?" Well, why is it the US market is so large? Money laundering? Marketing? Get the young teens hooked so they cannot stop taking until they die?

Stuff to think about.
