JW's are the most fun you can have without a modem.

Yeah, and then they back down and just claim they "know the truth" when they can't answer you're questions. I somewhat work with a Jevhovah Witness at my job, and I did ask him questions, as many as I could, but then he said if I wanted to learn more that I have to join their bible sessions.

When I voiced my skepticism to him, he told me, "Well before, when I wasn't a JW, I would have said the same things you've said, but now that I'm a JW, there's no way that I can say things like that." He claims to know the "truth".

Perhaps he does, but perhaps he doesn't.

"I reject your reality and insert my own."

It's "I reject your reality and substitute my own!"

When I was growing up we (our family) used to let in a pair of JW's.

Their acttually pretty cool, well mannered, and alot of the time pretty interesting - problem is alot of people get swayed by what they have to say..... As I stated in another post...

There Are 2 sides to Propoganda... Those who see it, and Those who see it.

My mom used to let in a couple of JW's.

The problem, as I see it, with the JW's is that their lives are totally consumed by being JW. For example, there was this girl in my class in highschool who came from a family of JW's. She was extremely intelligent and very personable. However, she didn't end up going to college - she took some menial job in some store. She had no aspiration whatsoever to do anything other than proslytyze and be a better JW. It seems sort of sad that this would be the method used to determine that value of one's life.

I need to get a Dalek, so when I see a JW outside the door, I can open it and shriek: "EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EX-TER-MIN-ATE!! !"

At the door, I quickly divide them up into misled Christians and non-Christians. I ask, "Is Jesus Christ of Nazareth your only savior and master?" The non-Christians will either agree with a different statement they come up with or will try to change the subject. The misled Christians will say "yes". They don't know the JW's believe Jesus was the archangel Michael incarnated who never died on a cross.

But surely that's better than most people nowadays whose religion is humanism, the belief that humans are free to do as they please and that religion is just an inconvenience. In my experience witnesses are devout people who try and live a moral way of life.Contrast that with the self centred culture that dominates the world today.

How do you define misled?

"misled" means they haven't been told the details of what they are getting themselves into. They follow what they think is good and are gradually fed thee les and less pleasant details.

The Freemasons do the same thing.

I don't mind the JW's at all like some people seem to. All the ones that I have met are polite and fine to have a conversation with even though I have no interest in joining their church.

Oh, and by the way...if you do ever want to get them to leave quickly, simply offer them a book of Mormon :D (They are not allowed to take it)

They are very approachable too. If you see them on prostelytizing missions, they are more than happy to talk. They only problem is that they usually will only give you the pat answers, and uhm and erm if you hit them with anything that they're not prepared for (not all - mind you). I think that it's a matter of this chore being required, instead of (like the Jesuits) choosing those with the debating skills to handle someone resistant who has a brain.
