(edit: don't worry - the video and discussion panel is a lot less racy than the title or photo would suggest)

Very interesting conversation about how our culture will be changing and the kinds of AI issues, both ethics and employment related, that we'll be confronting - a lot of us very much within our lifetimes:

This is all getting very Ghost in the Shell-y.

I think the one guy's joke about his wife being a cyborg had to be a medical implant she has (pacemaker, back pain implant, etc.).

"Martine Rothblatt, who makes legal and ethical arguments for why intelligent software might eventually deserve all the rights of flesh-and-blood people."

She is a lawyer that is writing AI rights laws and all kinda kewl futurist stuff like that....thought you might find what she's doing of interest.

There is no benefit to giving full consciousness to machines. That is not constructive AI.

The only reason why we do it is becuase we are fatalistic. Like sticking our hand in the fire, just becuase. That answers the 'will they' part. If it is possible we are smart enough yet stupid enough to do it. There is no reason to do it.

Perhaps AI infused F***bots will be commonplace sometime in the future, but this has been the wave of the past 20 or so years.. Laugh if you want, but it's still 'safer' than picking up some flooz at a bar.

Anton LaVey's vision has yet to become technological reality, let alone become feasibly affordable for the common person.

Interesting questions about relationships and the nature of the other. I can imagine robotic brothels in the not too distant future. This might take some of the pressure off of having a good relationship. Makes me wonder about what relations will be between men and women.

I doubt robot brothel will replace normal relations with men and women. If that were true then human brothels would have done that.

Maybe they'll come up with something new, like vending machines?

If any of you have played Fallout 4, I'm 100% sure there'll be groups of idiots like The Railroad when the time comes.

Rothblatt's book is an interesting read - it's like the modern continuation of Asimov's explorations of how we treat the "other" in terms of equality, rights and social acceptance, both using robots/AI as a vehicle. Although in her case, I think she really *is* talking about actual robots...or as some have posited, a futurist's version of immortality.

That's how I kinda see the super-soldiers game as well. There was an article recently stating that, despite what NWO conspiracy theorists like to claim, DARPA's a bit too freaked out to want to touch that one and yet they anticipate that more authoritarian countries like China and Russia may very well be playing with human DNA. A lot of that fatalism has to do with competitive edge and as long as the major players in world politics have significant competitors they'll feel a need to be a leg up.

On the bright side if anything, if the singularity does happen the way some thing it might, it could help side-step some of our more macabre explorations such as creating weaponized life.

As for robotic brothels replacing relationships I'd agree. However, I do wonder if robotic SO's will be a common place thing. That wouldn't supplant normal relationships but it would give companionship for those who are a bit outside the bell-curve for most people of the opposite sex. If you think about it as well - there's a good possibility that robots could eventually become more exemplary humans than we are. At that point if such relationships start getting really popular one would wonder if they won't also be managing the exchange of seed.

I also wonder if AI governance is in our future. If so that plays quite well toward the whole Jacque Fresco vision of a resource-based economy.

Excellent questions you raise...I wonder.

If AI persons are conscious in the same way as we are, it would be the same as with human person sex workers.
If they aren't deemed to be conscious at all, they would be seen as highly complex blow up sex dolls.
Neither of these possibilities would affect relationships between monogamous men and women, or same sex couples in a new manner because those possibilities already exist now.

But what if they deemed to be somewhere in the middle? Or said level of consciousness couldn't be accurately determined or equated to ours?

Now, *that* would raise some serious moral & ethical questions centered around consent *and* fidelity...

I also wonder about this:

As conscious beings but not having something as (at least presently) incorrigible in one's lifetime as genes in their basis, not being susceptible to our diseases, not having procreation as a timed pressure, there's a good chance they may not have the bedrock instincts of attraction and repulsion based on a partner's genetic health. For them they wouldn't have insecurities coming from looks because their knowledge base would be the limit. Their lives and spans of experience wouldn't have the limitations ours do because the 80, 90, or 100 year window wouldn't be a relevant concern for them.

How they would approach relationships and union with us would really have a lot to do with how they regarded us - as either beings of much more complex building blocks that they'd be using their intelligence to shepherd through a genetic revolution where they'd give us a leg up to grab the next major rung of our evolution, or whether they'd become self-centered enough to get us out of the way. I don't know that self-centeredness of the later type is all that likely unless there was an intense competition for resources and technically if they don't need to eat, sleep, drink, just need juice of some type to keep their batteries running, they may not have any destructive competition with us albeit - like with I Robot - they could get very controllingly smarmy if they decided that we were too feeble to have the freedoms we possess.
