Why do you think or not think politics fail?

I am not talking about evil regimes like Iraq in Sadam's time, or Nazi Germany. Let's just take a look at a normal democracy and why so many politicians abuse their power.

Let me start the discussion with my example:

If I am elected president of a democratic state, and I have this businessman "colleague" who owns a factory of helmets (and as you may know people who get into those kinds of circles like politicans aren't nessecarily there because they are experienced/smart or can lead a country) we can settle something like this: If I pass a law in which every cyclist have to wear a helmet during the ride, and as a result my befriended factory owner makes a fortune out of selling helmets, he'll give me 15% of his profits.

That's my reason of not liking the current state of politics.

What I do want to see, is getting back to old greek's democratic voting system, the true meaning of for the people by the people. So how can it be done? using the internet, and today's technological marvles which make our world smaller and make it easy to connect and collect data/surveys.

That will never happen.
Besides, campaign contributions are officially regarded as "freedom of speech".
The status quo will remain.

By "greek democratic" you must mean Athenian democracy. The problem is that system brought stupid catastrophic decisions done on the whim of the population; it has been a disaster. The system of modern democracies of republics elected by the people, while not perfect, is the best governmental system so far; it allow the stability of republics while still allowing the population to get rid of oligarchy.

poiltics fail due to corruption
corruption only exists due to secrecy

a free society can only exist when there is universal transperacy
and universal trust
