It is well known that Neocons plan to spread democracy in the Middle East in hopes these new states will reject terror and end the long years of oppressive regimes, which allow the development of radicals blaming the West for all their problems. Through democracy, these countries are said to also allow the transfer of more ideas and better the advancement of economic growth.

This vision could be shattered if we see Islamists elected in all of these countries. It has been a factor not much debated. The left in this country tells us that those who share Al Qaeda's ideology are only a very small fringe group of Muslims. This does not seem to be the case. There are enough of these people to gain considerable majorities in legislative bodies and executive positions. Arabs perceive a long chain of abuses directed against them by the West and being Muslims, they will naturally consult their Holy Qu'ran for guidance, to see if war is justified. This does not mean it's about religion. They could all be atheists and still find reason to defend themselves. It is human nature to preserve oneself and fight against perceived oppressors.

Many Arabs feel desperate and hopeless. A hopeless man is a dangerous man. He has no future. Hopelessness drives men to suicide. What better way to commit suicide than to blow up your oppressors along with you? It's far better to go to paradise and be pleased by 72 virgins than live a hellish existence under American and Zionist imperialism. But, there is no longer any need to be hopeless. Western democracy in Middle Eastern countries is a blessing in disguise. Now the Islamists can be voted into office and then further their Holy War against the Crusading West with the consent of the population without the bourgeois Arabs in control.

And so it is, that Neocon Idealism may very well be on the verge of collapsing like the Twin Towers up in smoke. The Great Beast of the Middle East has been awoken all in the belief in unfailing democracy to create endless peace in the world. There is no end in sight to the War on terror (as the Arab-Israeli conflict shows). America's economy will be wasted with all the reckless spending on homeland security and wars (meanwhile China laughs its way to future world dominance). Osama's belief that his Holy Warriors defeated the Soviet Union and can cut the head off of the snake, the Great Satan, the same way may very well come to fruition. After all, we must not forget that Neoconism descends from Trotsky, which explains their socialistic leanings.

The Middle East is on the rise. Hope in the future defeat of the West and a united Muslim world ruled by the Caliphate is becoming more realistic every day (also we must not forget future Muslims majorities in Europe). Meanwhile, the only people growing hopeless are Americans and the rest of the West. History has a weird way of repeating itself in cycles. We see Egyptian and Mesopotamian dominance, then Greek and Roman, then Arab, then Northern European, and now the East is rising again. Another constant in history is the repeated destruction of the Jewish state. The strong, united Arab world to come, may very well finally get the upper hand in the conflict, but this time history will unleash a hundred Hiroshimas if this were to happen. Jews came up with the saying, "Never Again" after the Holocaust. They will fight to the death, even if that means Nuclear warfare. A Nuclear Holocaust may very well be in the world's future and as many say "The Middle East will be glassed."

We live in perilous times. The great mass movements in history are never stopped. They move like avalanches or Tsunamis. A great Islamic Tsunami is coming toward us. Oh what have we reaped but the whirlwind!

I think it would be good for the world if Europeans and Americans were to submit to Allah. Islam is a religion of peace.

Please, we all know the real solution. That is to kill every last brownish person in the area. Then just take their oil. It is brilliant. I mean, as our good friend Kissinger always said "Depopulation should be the highest priority of foreign policy towards the third world, because the US economy will require large and increasing amounts of minerals from abroad, especially from less developed countries."

Yeah, I do have a rather dark sense of humor there.

Well I guess you know what Kissinger said the other day about Iraq. Not a precise quote but "its more hopeless than Vietnam"

speaking of Vietnam .....

Does anyone else see the irony that the VC had popular support in a struggle for independence against a foreign colonial power (close parrallel to the American War of Independence).

I thought Vietnam was hopeless because of corrupt governments that did not have any widespread support or any enthusiasm for participating in the war.

Is the system the "coalition of the willing" is putting in place in Iraq more corrupt with less popular support?

Continuing the divergence into 'nam, one of my colleagues was talking to a former member of the JCS, who claims that it was the one war that the US actually got everything that it wanted in the recently past century.

WWI - the Balkans are still a mess
WWII - spawned the cold war, some of the effects of which are still causing problems
Korea - divided, no peace treaty.

I don't remember the arguments for Grenada and Panama, but these didn't turn out perfectly either
and the Iraq issue is obviously a disaster right now.

Vietnam, on the other hand, is probably more in compliance with what we would desire than would have been possible if the South still existed.

Bush's reasoning was good -- for a Humanist.
1. There is only a minority of Muslims who are radical.
2. We certainly don't want them to come over here, shooting people coming out of the grocery store.
3. We send Americans over there to attract their attention, Americans with body armor and machine guns. Let them die for their Allah without doing any harm. That will increase the influence of the non-jihad Muslims whom we can get along with.

WRONG

The Koran is more about politics than religion. When Muslims are a minority, they act like model citizens -- while multipying like rabbits and staying culturally apart. The Koran allows them to lie to the infidels. When they get near plurality, the Koran requires they politically take over the region and kill what infidels don't submit and become Muslims. Democracy doesn't work because they have utter contempt for infidels. No equal vote for them! Besides, Mohammed modeled despotism to them.

The Germans are forcing the Muslim children to come to government schools to be acculturated. We will see how well that works.

Some Muslim feminists are working on a new version of the Koran that is not so brutal. We will see how long they survive.

If Medina were turned into a radioactive crater by a B-2 out of Diego Garcia with the threat that Mecca could be next if they don't restrain themselves, that would cause them major pause. Anyone with a nuke could finish the job. I think that would pacify them for a generation, forcing them to revert to guerilla warfare that wouldn't trigger that last bomb. But they would still be multiplying like rabbits, using their women solely as man-factories.

I think that most educated Iranians understand that their government is being imbecilic and at least petty. Furthermore, I think that the flame of liberty is truly ablaze among many of their youth. As the reformers slowly gain their foothold, in spite of their faults, they will begin to pull away the veil that has long concealed this land's true nature. I feel, in my heart, that the Persian Tiger never truly died. She will roar once again, proud and strong. Persia! Babylon! Rise again! A new age of myth awaits! Mesopotamia, you were the cradle of civilization. Open your eyes, and be reborn!

However, I'm afraid that the US has impeded much of this. Sorry, but the neocons are USA-holes who were never really interested doing the ME any good. They've shown themselves time and time again to be nothing but shameless criminals.

I think it's also relevant, ASPER, that some people in the UK would beg to differ with him on Muslim minorities. I don't have any direct experience to base that on, of course, being a Yank.

I wondered if you were sane when I read this. The further that I got into your discussion the more convinced that I am that you are not. Cool eh?
