Recently I read an interesting article about some of our Polish, law firm which sent a request for payment for alleged copyright infringement by illegally downloading movies and music over P2P network.

Such a call was given many Poles, it turned out that many of these pleadings are trying to extort money. Unfortunately many people are frightened sending requested mony without checking.
Apparently, these types of scams are quite popular in the US and UK, and I have people there do not give a cheat in this way.

If I got the letter I wrote those words.

"I'm not going to pay you anything, and this call I am going to use as toilet paper"

There's a scam in my state where people call and say a family member has been kidnapped and have crying/screaming in the background. They say you have to pay ransom or they'll kill them. Only thing is no ones been kidnapped.

One ladies supposed kidnapped daughter walked in while on the phone with the kidnappers. Police said they've been randomly calling numbers and doing it.

So messed up. What if a real kidnapping happens and people don't take it serious.

Look up Adam Carolla and personal audio. Personal audio claims to have a patent on the technology for podcasting. They have sent letters demanding money for copyright infringement from multiple podcast hosts. Adam Carolla, Marc Maron and the Nerdist are a few that were targeted.

Patent trolls are a huge issue. It's so ridiculous that until recently you couldn't sing happy birthday over the air because someone held a copyright on it. Thankfully that last one was invalidated.

One more thing. You're right to use these letters as toilet paper if you don't mind the roughness. They're just hoping that they can scare people into paying or that it will be cheaper for companies to just pay them rather than try to fight a lawsuit.
