But Clinton may have it wrong, CBS2’s Marcia Kramer reported. Sources close to Bloomberg told Kramer the former mayor is ramping up a possible presidential run regardless of who gets the Democratic nomination, eyeing an Independent third-party bid.

“I would love to have Michael get in the race — I don’t know if he’s going to do it — but I hope he does,” GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump said. “I’d love to compete against Michael.”

Kind of interesting, isn't the first liberal billionaire to float out the idea of running for president in light of Trump's success(Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz) but Bloomberg actually has some political stature and was mayor of NYC. It would interesting to see what he thinks his path to victory is since I don't think he'll pull many conservative votes given his liberal record, he'd be taking more from Hillary or Sanders than Trump. Our electoral system is so screwed up, we need room to make more than 2 choices but we don't. The 3rd party candidate is almost always the spoiler.

I think the establishment plan might be at this point to try to throw the election to the House and choose a candidate of their choosing to president not who the people voted for.

Speaking as a liberal myself, I wouldn't consider Bloomberg to be liberal. I find it odd that he wants to run at all. I really don't know where his support is going to come from, I don't know anyone that likes him.

Well first off he used to be a Republican. That and his economic policies are a lot more conservative than Hillary's. If he gets any support at all it's only going to be from the other wealthy people in his class. I don't see this thing going very far.

Bloomberg could take the Democratic establishment support and would try to peel off disgruntled Republicans but he's simply a non-starter on gun control/immigration/bunch of other things, Wall Street doesn't like the prospect of having to choose between Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders so the powers that be are summoning Michael Bloomberg to rise to the occasion. Hillary is such a wounded candidate that if she makes it to the general she will lose to Trump/

He thinks there is an opening for him to win obviously as the "moderate" between Trump and Sanders, now Hillary is such a weakened candidate that he starting to think he could make things interesting there too. I think a lot of the Clintonistas might abandon ship for Bloomberg, Ed Rendell basically all but said he would. Lets not forget that Bernie Sanders is not technically a Democrat either, I think Bloomberg might be the trump card for the DNC if Hillary gets indicted. Bloomberg has his polling right at like 12% with pretty much even support between Trump and the DNC candidate which is pretty interesting. I would not be surprised if there are even more third party/independent candidates that run, I can't imagine the GOP establishment is to enthused about the alternatives of Hillary, Bloomberg, or Sanders. America is a divided place, our electoral system just corrals everyone into of two camps.

He could get on all 50 ballots as late as March I think, maybe later since he wouldn't be effected by any sore loser laws. Should be long enough to know whether or not Hillary's campaign is going down the tubes or if federal indictment is coming, wonder how much of the Democratic establishment Bloomberg could peel off given that Hillary is a DOA candidate and Bernie is Bernie. Bloomberg is one of the richest people in the world, makes Donald look like small potatoes, he'd make a huge impact on the race if he were to enter.

It's not that far-fetched to imagine Cruz (Rep) v Trump v Bloomberg v Sanders (Dem).

If the US used the popular vote then I think Bloomberg and Sanders would be the two favourites. Bloomberg would be the moderate candidate, who would benefit from the unpopularity of Cruz and Trump. He'd pick up a lot of independents and moderates. Sanders would benefit from being on the Democratic ticket and having stronger favourability ratings than Cruz and Trump.

State by state, it's harder to call. Cruz would probably carry most of the red states, but the whole thing would be so unprecedented that nobody would know what was happening.
