Is there still suffering after you die?

Although I really do not want to die (at least not yet), I have to admit that perhaps the only comfort I find in death is that I will not suffer pain and emotional distress anymore and that no one can hurt or see me anymore after my body is basically reduced to fundamental particles.

So do you think there is still pain and suffering after death? Do you think you can still deeply long for something you have lost even after you died?

Where were you before you were born? You didn't exist. It's the same thing when you die. You will have no pain or suffering, because you will have nothing. Because you won't exist. You won't even know that you have nothing, because there truly will be nothing.

I don't honestly know.

I don't think so. But since I've never been dead I can't be absolutely sure.

My guess is that being dead is very much like the state of deep sleep (with no dreams). There is nobody, no thoughts, nothing, like you have ceased to exist for several hours each night.

It's a good estimate, but we won't really know 'til we get there.

I'd read the Tibetan Book of the Dead just in case

I did actually read it more than thirty years ago! The bit I remember is to follow the big light not the little light. Hmmmmm. Or was it the other way around. I vaguely remember that if one loses track of the light one is doomed to be reborn again.

Why are you asking? No-one here has answers, no matter how much they pretend. we all have a pulse.
empiricism would imply "no", religion would say "if you don't have a beard, enjoy bumsex, or eat meat on fridays, or don't believe this bs".

The question cannot be resolved empirically so it can be ignored as meaningless.

death is the separation of body and soul, so your soul goes to heaven while your body is in the ground.

Does that soul include your mind/personality? If so, how do you explain the fact that normal people can local brain damage, and have their personality change completely?

There is no empirical evidence for the existence of a "soul". What is it, where is it and how does it operate. How can I detect your soul or you detect my soul. What is the process?

Seeing as you need a working nervous system to experience both pain and suffering, there is very good reason to believe you will feel nothing. I really feel like I'm stating the obvious...

are you alive? if you answer yes, then you have a soul.

There are alot of animals that are alive and experience emotions, but not one of them has ever shown any evidence of having a soul. It's not even possible to prove that you have a soul, so you can't make any affirmations.

All we know for sure is that every single emotion that we experience is the result of neurotransmitters and hormones. The soul is an anachronism that was only relevant when we didn't have scientific knowledge to explain emotion.
