New York State US party primaries

With the above happening to-day , Hillary vs. Bernie and the Donald , etc. , we could talk about it ~ But I really want to ask a super-literal factual question , if anyone here does know how the laws in New York State regarding the Big Two parties' primaries go . Which is:
Briefly , are they open primaries or registered-party-member-only primaries ? Or somewhere in-between ?
I am going to assume that anyone who can answer this qustion knows what I am talking about ~ I realize that it may be " Whaaa ??? " to many many more .
It IS relevant to the results ! !! !! (Sez I .)

...I certainly assume that non-US-ers here , in general , are baffled by me referencing the " rules " of US primaries (Which I ~ THINK ????????? ~ can be law-based , or party-organization based , too??) ~ Fair enough .

New York is a closed primary. Bernie/Hillary should be interesting, Bernie really needs to win New York to be considered viable since it's an impossible argument if he loses all the big diverse states to Hillary. Trump is in control now, the establishment was able to momentarily slow him but he'll win in a rout in New York tonight and carry that momentum into next week into routs in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Rhode Island.

Thank you ? I assume that those are party rules , not laws...I seem to recall that , here in California , it was a state law that made the two parties' primaries both open ~ And both Big Two parties sued against that law , IIRC .
NYS has this peculiar interpretation of residency requirements that led Hillary (and James Buckley and Bobby Kennedy too ! !! !! !! !) all move to the state and instantly (and successfully) run for U.S. Senate ! !! !! !! !!

NY has some of the most arcane and confusing election laws in the country, all designed with one purpose in mind: to ensure that the two major parties get to hand pick their candidates for the general election. They also make it hard for challengers, and any minor party, to get on the ballot in the first place. The rule of thumb for outsiders used to be, make sure that your signature petitions to get on the ballot have 3 times the required number, because they will go over them with a fine tooth comb to disqualify as many as they can.
