Ted Cruz just got himself ripped a new one when he showed up to campaign in the Bronx, where the people there remember how he slammed "New York values," months ago. Cruz and his kind are the same ones who just as eagerly say they "want America to look more like Texas than San Francisco." Essentially, that talk is ultimately the bashing of blue state/urban values, including gay rights, the expansion of the social safety net for the sake of the poor and disabled, defense of immigrant rights, etc. As far as the politics of division are concerned, Cruz and the rest of the right have fired the first shot, and have kept firing.

My biggest fear is that Cruz will get the RNC nomination.
Clinton will get the DNC nomination.
And both Sanders and Trump will go independent.
The vote will be unevenly split four ways.
No candidate will hit 270 electoral votes.
And Congress will get to choose who wins from the top three...

Funny how the fallback is going to a parliamentary system.

And then people will grab their guns and decide to install the candidate of their choice by force. Four presidents, four capitals, four groups of people who hate everybody but them. Civil war, Africa style. The rest of the world will cheer, until they get a taste of Russian and Chinese rule.
"Mayor de Blasio said that a lot of New Yorkers are joining the Daily News in telling Ted Cruz to “Take the FU Train.”

And I concur with them all.

Diocletian split the Roman empire specifically because it was getting too large to govern. More people = more opinions = harder to govern. It squeezed another 200 years or so out of Rome-- we may not be far off from that being a viable path.

If that were to happen, the poorer red states could very well become the third world of the northern hemisphere. The east-west spit of the Roman Empire was the worst thing that could have happened to the poorer, less developed west, which outside of Italy and Egypt, was composed of what were still by and large tribal agrarian societies. Without the wealthy tax base to draw on, the western empire ended up depending on Barbarian tribes for their standing army, who proved to be friends one day, then enemies and invaders the next. Then, as the ineffective western Emperors continued the fiction that regions lost to the Barbarians were still essentially under their rule, they bestowed Roman titles on the invading kings so they could claim said regions were under the "protection" of Rome's agents, more and more of the Empire was chipped away. Finally, the Germanic/Hunnish general, Odecker, did away with that fiction and declared himself King of Italy after deposing the last western Emperor, Little Augustulus. Such a thing might not be impossible in a splintered America.

It's funny how Rafael tried to make this accusation of "New York Values" as some implied elitism and to try to win over a few dumb redneck down in South Carolina with some Yankee red meat. He's fraud in cowboy boots, he's an elitist himself going to Harvard and Princeton then spending so many years in Washington.

True, but when Diocletian split the empire those weren't problems that were forcing Rome to go under. The later barbarian conquering happened well past when a unified Rome would have fallen.
I agree with your claim on the red states. For the last 50 years they've been the biggest recipient of federal money-- the same money they claim is being redistributed from them, lol. I live in Colorado, but we're different, far left and far right meet in this state and I happen to live in a very far right section of the state. Our entire local economy is based on tourism-- namely tourists coming for the great outdoors (you know BLM land), and an ancient Anasazi city in the mountains (also happens to be a national monument, you know federally funded and all). You'd be amazed at how many people here complain about the federal government, "redistribution of wealth", etc.-- and this entire county would shrivel up and die economically if the federal government decided to leave. You point this out to people around here and the reply is: "well my tax dollars are supporting...yada yada yada that I don't like." So very short-sighted, they're complaining about tax money which they wouldn't even have the luxury of paying should the Feds decide to move out, because they'd be jobless. Sorry, long rant on a minor point, but ignorance always flabbergasts me.
On a side note, I think it was Odoacer that the barbarians buried in a roman bath because they thought it was a tomb, lol. Don't quote me on that one, it could have been Theoderic too, I just remember it was either the emperor before the barbarian switch or the one after, and I'm thinking it was the earlier since Theoderic tried to follow Roman customs to keep the population happy-- and he did bury Odoacer, and allowed his son to live (temporarily, until he came back to Rome like a moron).

SNL had a skit tonight along the same lines.
The local press here is having a field day with thier tourist mistakes, Kasich eating pizza with a knife and fork, Bernie thinking you still pay for the subway using tokens, Hillary swiping her metro card 5 times before getting it right(SNL poked fun at that also)
